Ee just turned 8 years old

.. and he is bragging about his height.

.. I have just another 20cm to go before I get to be as tall as you, Mummy

honestly, not looking forward to that. Ha ha.

As always, we have a mini family celebration followed by parties on both sides of the family. For his birthday dinner, nucleus family level – we went to Rest Haus Restaurant located in Taman Lagenda, Melaka. It has an open shoe policy before entering the premise. I would personally recommend their daging salai set (smoked beef) & ribeye roll. Their macaroni cheese is superb too.

A few days later, we celebrated Ee’s birthday with my husbands family at my brother in laws new flat unit he rents out for his homestay business. We bought the Indulgence Cake from Secret Recipe and I ordered additional desserts from an online homebaker on Instagram.

I was craving for Pavlova and creampuff, so I ordered those. Total of my purchase were RM90 for 46 pieces of creampuff and 16pcs of pavlova. I paid for the deposit online and completed the transaction once I picked it up at a location in Muzaffar Height. I am contemplating to order the creampuff again for next year. Ha ha ha.

The following weekend was Ee’s final birthday bash with my side of the family. Initially I had wanted to arrange another swim at the villa but the rates were super expensive since it was a school holiday. Hence, for minimal fuss, I decided to just go somewhere for a hi-tea buffet. Ditching our usual venue i.e Sama Sama Hotel, this time I thought we should give Verandah Restaurant at Cyberview Resort & Spa a try.

Making a reservation was easy and for me, reliable because they utilize the TableApp. The journey there was peaceful as the traffic was not congested. Yelah, nama pun gi resort kan. I brought Ee and Adil’s (his cousin) themed birthday cake there too.

This time I ordered the cake from Anisskekhouse.

This homebaker now has 2 physical stores located one at Kip Mall, Bachang and the other at Bukit Baru. The boys wanted a Doraemon adventure in the land of dinosaurs sort of thing and was glad that she knew exactly what to do. I was pleased with the results. The cake was banana chocolate with buttercream icing and for a size of 7 inches, the price totaled to RM70 with self pickup.

Verandah restaurant buffet spread was super wonderful. My folks love it, my brothers kept giving a thumbs up. I was binging on the protein and veges instead of the carbs. Would definitely go there again! We were a party of 8 adults (including 2 senior citizens), 3 paying kids and 1 kid for free.

A paying adult is RM68.00 ( as advertised) but on our receipts marked down as RM64.15

Senior citizens get a 30% discount. Children pay half of the adult amount.

And surprise, if you pay with a Maybank card, you get an additional 20% off the total bill. I honestly was not aware of that! Total after discount was RM457.00 This promotion is of course at a limited time only. And I also just knew that if the timing is right and you know where to look in the world wide web, some app or sites offer vouchers to eat here for a cheaper rate.

The party at Verandah Restaurant was the end of Ee’s birthday celebration. He received lots of presents and birthday ang-pow. His dad gave him a sim card so he could play his video games. He got a remote controlled helicopter of which only the dad could operate it well. His remote controlled car became Ninie’s favourite toy for a day.

In a few months time, we will be celebrating Danial’s bday pulak. He is Ee’s uncle. And that will be another great celebration.

Minci Travels Macao 2019. Spending the day in Cotai

Cotai spells out Luxury, Prestigious, Posh etc. It is a center where the buildings are huge, expensive and casinos are just everywhere. We felt a bit under-dressed walking underneath the glittering chandelier the size of our sofa at its shopping area. Perhaps next time I’ll wear a nice dress with heels. And a fashionable shawl to match. With a pair of classy sneakers in my posh backpack, just in case.

We managed to visit 3 places there. The place is so huge that we managed to lose our sense of direction even though the map for the area is readily available. Perhaps we were hungry. Even then, we couldn’t find the Indian restaurant that we badly wanted to go and try. I think they have the Peacock Restaurant there at The Venetian.

The Venetian Macao

In short, we wanted to see the much talked about San Luca Canal. Indeed, it was a beautiful place. We did not get into the gondola. We only took a picture.

The Parisian Macao

This is a separated building that houses also many shopping brands, hotel and casino. It is however connected with a bridge that you can walk through. The highlight of this particular hotel is the replica of the Eiffel Tower. You can enjoy the scenery at the observation deck if you stay at the hotel. But we weren’t guest. And we were also not members (of god knows what). So we paid for our tickets. The building was breathtaking with its tall, magnificent features but the view, was a tad disappointing.

Tickets were

MOP $108.00 for adults, MOP $85.00 for children.

It is because constructions were still happening on the Cotai Strip. So, it is not that ready yet with all the cranes, lorries and sand.

Studio City

This has got to be my favourite place. This is also a hotel and casino resort but more cinematic in appearance. The design of the external building was very Gotham city with the statues on the roof. Their collaboration with Time Warner ( which means they are also friends with Warner Bros and DC Comics) enables visitors to enjoy DC character features such as the Batman Dark Flight. We could not enter because Ee had height restrictions.

We did however enjoyed the Golden Reel, a figure 8 ferris wheel. Walking to the entrance of the elevator to the reel felt like walking to an Academy Award Show. They were playing the OST of Jurassic Park and gosh, it felt so majestic to walk through the glittering, sparkling hallway. Again, we felt under-dressed. Haha.

This is also the part where it got interesting. The guy at the counter asked if we brought our boarding passes to which my husband fortunately had. He said for any passengers boarding the Air Asia flight which flew directly to Macao can benefit from a discount to the entrance fee. So keep your boarding passes people! I am however not sure which other airline also has this perks.

By the time we finished our 15 min ride on the wheel, we were really really tired from all the walking. Yup, you can actually walk from one resort to another. It burns the calories but kills your feet. Especially with Mr Husband having to carry our 12kg Ninie.

it was only nearing 4 pm but totally exhausted. So we took the cab back home to Metropole Hotel and retired quite early to bed that day (lights out by 9pm) as we have another full day the next morning.

Take home messages :

Prepare snacks kids are familiar with. They might not want to try something new.

Wear, comfortable (fashionable, if you must) shoes

Bring a fold-able umbrella, just in case.

Review : Photobook with Foto-Zzoom

This is a Sticky Post. For new post, please scroll down.

I am a fan of photobooks. Especially after seeing my own wedding photos eternalized in a pretty, thick book back in 2010. The photos won’t be torn, smudged or damaged in any way unless the book itself caught fire. Since then, I have been eye-ing on a few sites which offer these services and lately I came across Foto-Zzoom.

Foto-Zzoom allows customers to create their photobook in less than 15 minutes. I mean who would have time to actually sit down in front of the computer for hours playing editor. Not to mention the pain of having to adjust the settings and size of the pictures especially on photos with poor resolutions. Well, at Foto-Zzoom they will try to solve the headache for you as you order the book in 3 simple steps.

1. Choose the size and design of the book.

fz1

2. Key in your personal and payment details

fz2

3. Upload your pictures. Do bear in mind that the ‘ORDER NOW’ button would not light up until you have sufficient number of photos uploaded based on the size of the photobook you chose. Having done that, all you have to do is sit back and relax while the designing team does the editing for you. This will take a few days.

fz3

Once that is done, they will send you a link for the finished product to your email so you may review and discuss amendments (if any) with the team before it gets published.

fz4

The photobook was couriered by City-Link and it arrived on my doorstep safe and sound in one beautiful masterpiece. Even Pekanbaru doesn’t look as mundane as how it was during our little family trip few months ago.

fz5

A photobook would look great on anybody’s coffee table. If you place your order now, you will get discounts as the site is having a promotion with the upcoming Raya. Have fun!
