My 2015 resolution – a reflection

This was what I wanted to achieve for this year. Let’s see what came out of it.

  1. Teach Baby Zeeq the wonders of life
  2. Prepare a decent meal to feed the family at least for that one meal a day. Be it a simple fried egg or dried anchovies sambal
  3. To perform sunat prayers and Do Charity
  4. Read on knowledge that would make Work more interesting and of course Read to liven up the long lost fantasy world
  5. Workout and be fit. To maintain a BMI of less than 24
  6. Construct my fairy-themed garden
  7. Attend social gatherings, reunions and fulfill wedding/party invitations
  8. Send Parcel Kasih Sayang to besties
  9. Learn new skills and make new friends
  10. BLOG

The highlighted ones are the objectives that I feel I have achieved in one way or another. Interestingly, I find that 2015 was a year full of holidays. Like more than what I could imagine. I don’t think I would be able to do it alone. So it’s a good thing to have a partner in crime. Mr Husband of course.

It seems that I enjoy getting on airplanes, performing rukhsah in solat, tasting new food and just soaking in the different atmosphere. And I thought cuddling up in a blanket on the sofa with a book was ‘travelling more than one page’ already. 😛

Now I can’t help wondering if, say if, it would be equally exciting to go travel but in the company of my girls!!! ha ha.. something to think about.

Time to draft my 2016 resolution.

Sedeqah – The 5 ringgit story

A story of humanity in Malaysia went viral recently.

A lady paid in advance MYR 50 for her fuel but her tank was already full at MYR 45. She couldn’t be bothered to make another walking trip back to the counter and reclaim the remaining MYR 5. So she just waited at the petrol pump to see if there was any motorcyclists who needed the extra fuel. Almost immediately, a young man came by in his kapchai. The lady urged him to take over the pump.

“here’s 5 ringgit worth of fuel. Please take it”

The boy took it happily and the lady noticed that he was in tears.

“Whats wrong boy?”

“Kak, I have not received my paycheque from work. I only have MYR10 with me. Just a while ago I was thinking if I were to pay for my fuel MYR3, I would only have MYR7 to last till its end. Alhamdulilah, Allah has greater plans -He gave me Rezki in the form of free motor fuel”

The article went on to mention how in each of our Rezki , there could be some which belongs to others. Hence the concept of Zakat or menyucikan harta comes to mind.

Now, what amused me were the comments by readers following the article. I saw a few comments that resonates along the same meaning

I wish I could be like you. I wish that Allah could also grant me the same opportunity to do so to other human beings.

The secret is, the opportunity has always been there. Its either we have been ignorant or choose not to perform these good deeds. If you want to be like the lady, perform SEDEQAH. And there are plenty of ways to do SEDEQAH. It can be in money or kind. It can be something that you do in routine or on special occasions.

SedeQah is when

you smile

you tell the taxi driver to keep the change

you recite the AlFatihah to the ill or dead

you carpool

you share a meal with the poor

you donate to the flood victims

you feed a stray cat

you help hold the door

you spare some small change

you wakaf some reading materials or the Quran to the masjid

Indahnya Islam..

A resolution to Make Time

Few people know so clearly what they want. Most people can’t even think what to hope for when they throw a penny in a fountain.

Of Xmas and resolutions

“Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone.”
― Charles M. Schulz

I love the Xmas season. Malaysia may not have snow but the festive occasion still resonates a common theme wherever you are. Its all about Giving.

To the unfortunate. To the less able. To the poor.

Its about Sharing the Joy. Its about Forgiveness.

I have to say to celebrate Xmas in Sarawak is more ‘happening’. Having served in the state for almost 3 years and despite not celebrating Xmas myself, I still find joy in the visits from the local churchgroup as they perform Xmas carols from one ward to the other. And all this done upon the grounds of racial and religious harmony. Such that you dont hear Muslim patients complaining to the hospital board regarding such practices.

Enough with Xmas.

December is also a joy every year as I get to plan ahead of what I plan to accomplish for the year 2014. I have failed to read 12 books a year as a start. Bummer. I still want to read books but I figured I should make my goals more specific. Perhaps instead of mentioning,

“I will read 12 books a year”

I shall go for,

” I will read [title of book] in January”

Yes, I think I got a hang of it. Time for resolutions for a new year ahead.
