Solo stay at MITC Hotel Melaka

My husband brought the kids over to Acheh for the Raya Haji celebration with my dad and his new wife (and kids). Mi amore knew that I was NOT on leave in that particular week due to the usual ‘kuota cuti’. Although my response to his proposal to bring the kids to Acheh was a sing-song ‘you can do that, saya tak cuti‘, the most appropriate response is to CANCEL EVERYTHING. But no, he took it at face value and went ahead on the trip. After more than 10 years of marriage, masih lah tak faham faham. Ha ha.

So, I did the next best thing to console myself. *giving myself a butterfly hug here*. I booked a solo stay at one of the nearest hotels to my workplace. The MITC Hotel. It was only a 15-minute journey to work. I checked in on the evening of EID and just enjoyed the great hospitality. I booked a Superior Double room for a 4D3N stay through Agoda.com. My total was RM 492.94, including taxes and fees. I even have breakfast included. I did have to pay the Melaka Heritage Fee separately at RM3 per night. The fee may vary depending on the hotel’s star rating.

Parking was obviously easy. I can see why some comments on Google reviews mentioned that the room seemed small. It is because the bed is not big, risen and bulky. It looks like our ordinary double bed at home. It feels like a Hobbit home. The pillows were fluffy but a bit odd-sized. It felt like sleeping on the chest of a really muscular bodybuilder. The hotel was pretty generous with its beverages. They provided one cup of instant noodles on arrival. The coffee and tea sachets were replenished daily. The air conditioner was superbly cool. I loved that there was a hair dryer too. There is no fridge in the room, so I basically get my cold water from work and bring it with me to the hotel. I need my cold water.

Do bring your own toothbrush and paste

The location is great. There are plenty of restaurants near the hotel itself. If you are willing to walk a bit further like me, you can go towards the roundabout and find your way to Mydin Mall. Apart from what is in Mydin itself, there are also a few other nice places to eat at Kota Fesyen. I was able to get my steps in daily after work in the evening. Every day, I had dinner outside and would usually come back to the hotel just after Maghrib. I will write about my dinner adventures in a different post.

Breakfast at the hotel starts at 7 am. That means I get a quick 30 minutes at the restaurant before I drive off to work. I only managed to enjoy the buffet at a leisurely pace during my last day there, since it was a Saturday. I have to recommend their Nasi Lemak. The sambal was really good. I put it on top of everything I can, the roti canai, lontong, everything! If they are serving this particular Nasi Lemak as part of lunch, I would actually come here to have lunch. Coffee was OK. It did come from those automatic machines. I also enjoyed their noodles. It was nice. The roti canai and curry were delicious too. Thankfully, the school holiday crowd has yet to arrive during my stay there. Thus, my breakfast was quite peaceful and less hurried. Meaning, I don’t have people staring at my table, wanting to sit there once I get up.

The swimming pool was cute. I think my daughter would have loved it. There was a beautiful courtyard for private events just beside it, too. The overall service and hospitality were great. The staff were so polite. Always with a smile and a tiny nod. The manager even called me a few minutes after checking in, just to make sure that everything was up to my expectations, since I will be staying there for 4 days. No wonder it is a 4-star hotel.

There was no sight of a gym. Even then, as I said earlier, I managed to get my brisk walk in after work by strolling the area. There were so many things to see and try. You will never go hungry because there is a 24-hour McDonald’s restaurant right beside the hotel. I would definitely come here again if I ever need another solo moment because I really felt safe as a female guest.

Wrapping up my Youtube channel early for 2023

We are 2 weeks shy into 2024 but I have decided to upload my last Youtube video for the year. It is about my trip to MIRI for the wedding in early this month. I also added a snippet of my planning for 2024 in my MUJI PLANNER.

Now that my formal exams for psychology are done – I thought I should delve into ideas for my final year project. Once that is sorted, I could carry out the project and just like that, my degree is over. Then, if there is rezeki of time and money, I could apply for the Master’s programme at UKM as a part-time learner.

Here is my final video for 2023. I produced only 14 videos this year instead of over 20 in 2022. Still, I admire my persistence (lol) in keeping up with the video editing despite the time and commitment constraints I had this year. Good job Minci for the little battles you won.

Here it is guys, MIRI in video.

The Pearl, Kuala Lumpur

We stayed at this hotel because my son had a National Scrabble Championship at the conjoining mall, Pearl Point over the weekend. The game is spread over two days and quite lengthy for someone like me, who doesn’t understand the rules. Since the whole family is going, we might as well have a place to rest so that my daughter would not get cranky. Therefore, The Pearl was a convenient choice.

Mr Husband booked a room for one night. the lobby was welcoming with it’s Hari Kemerdekaan Display.

It had all the expected amenities of a 4-star hotel: Free Wi-Fi, a mini fridge, a kettle, a tub and a comfortable king-size bed. Our room had breakfast included which was great. The spread was adequate with the usual mix of Western and Malaysian breakfast options. There is also a swimming pool but we did not bring any swimming gear. So, just a photo it is.

I like that we get two card keys because the husband obviously needs to go to and fro the mall and the hotel to check on our son who is playing. So he gets to keep one card and my daughter and I get to enjoy the big bed and air-conditioned room with the other card in the power slot. My daughter gets to soak in the bathtub as well. The elevators are easy. This means there is no need to put your card on a reader and press the floor number. It may be secure but that is so maa-fan.

Considering that it is joined to a mall, food is easy to access. There are so many nice stores under one roof at Pearl Point. While waiting for check-in, we get to eat McD for breakfast, Old Town Kopitiam for lunch and some takeouts for dinner. In between, I got Milkis from Jaya Grocers and my first Llao LLao. Now I get what the hype is with that green yoghurt thing. There’s even Zus Coffee at the mall which is something I would have loved to order but since I’d had too many sweets for the weekend – I will have it on a different occasion.

my first llao llao – had the pistachio sauce and biscoff crumbs

Ibis Styles Hotel in Ao Nang is a 3 star  hotel which boasts its fine reputations for being able to cater the needs of international tourists. In my opinion – yep, so true. Even though it is not certified as a Halal Resort – we enjoyed the facility and hospitality very much. Adding to that, this hotel also allows customers to bring their pets. So do not scream when you see a poodle on a leash at the lobby. They don’t bite.

The room was exceptionally clean. There wasn’t much space for Ee, my son , to run around but you get what you pay for. You want a bigger room? Rent a suite. Or a family room. Ours was a standard room with 2 single beds. So we were satisfied.

Unforgettable plus points;

  • delicious welcome drink – flower tea. padahal teh bunga je
  • wonderful majestic view of the mountains with its shadows towering over the swimming  pool
  • although halal in house breakfast options are limited – there are plenty of halal eateries near the hotel. There’s even a masjid right opposite the site
  • extra beach towels in our room so we can bring them for our island hopping activities
  • comfortable pillows and bedding
  • free WIFI in every room – there’s no need to leech for connections in the lobby
  • functioning and replenished basic amenities – in room mini fridge, shower gel & shampoo, hairdryer and kettle.

Mr Husband loved this hotel so much he wants to stay here again for our 3rd Krabi trip in the future. And why wouldn’t he? If I had wanted to, I could easily slip out of the room at night and eat loads of pancakes from the makciks selling them just outside the hotel. It is that safe!

Only thing is I prefer to be that sleepy, tired , fat whale at the end our trips and have a good night sleep.
