Krabi 2018 : Timber House Ao Nang

Previously, we stayed at Ananta Burin Resort (2014) and Ibis Styles Hotel (2016) for our Krabi getaway. this year we tried Timber House Ao Nang.

Timber House is a 3 star family friendly resort with commendable facilities and staff. It is walking distance to the beach and most importantly, near Halal eateries for Muslim tourists.

Things we loved about the place;

  1. The Room – we booked a family room which has 1 King Size bed and 1 single bed. Each unit has a private terrace complete with chairs and a table that overlooks the pool (in most places). I wished I had brought my HoboMinci for it would be an ideal place to do some journaling. Each room has the basic amenities like the fridge, hot shower, room and pool towels, daily complimentary bottled water and beverages, a kettle, a microwave (bonus!) and basic toiletries although I would recommend you bring your own shower gel.
  2. The pool – kids loved it especially when the management left a floating alligator in the pool for the kids to enjoy swimming. Pool opens from 7AM – 7PM.           wp-1535267001793..jpg
  3. The FREE BREAKFAST package – there were online reviews from fellow visitors that did not enjoy the choices. We personally think that it was alright for a 3 star hotel. Although the spread was not fully HALAL, there are safe options like the vegetarian fried noodle, the bread and HALAL butter, the fresh fruits, juices, lovely coffee from the machine. I had my fix of mocha and cappuccino almost every morning.

  5. Walking distance to the many places to eat – the HALAL pancakes, ice cream and hot meals are just around the corner. Take the turn up the hill towards 7 Eleven and voila, its like a Muslim street up there. It’s different from the street near the mosque but the options are just as varied and great.

The resort did say we have access to FREE WIFi but I find the connection to be awful. So I resorted to my very own DIGI Roaming Package. It’s an RM25 package which has a 4GB Internet + 60 mins call for 3 days. Interestingly I could still settle my bills online and receive my TAC number for my transactions in Krabi.

Would I stay here again? Yes. I think we paid for our rooms for less than RM 120 per night. And it was for 3 nights. Of course it would depend on certain variables like the season, the deals available and the number of people joining the trip. Still, it was a nice stay.

Hotel yang nampak ekslusif, murah dan bersih. air paip bila mandi tak rasa mcm air kapur, breakfast pun kira OKlah utk yang selamat dimakan dan sgt dekat dgn tpt makan HALAL siapa rasa mcm nk solat berjemaah pun blh singgah kt masjid depan hotel. 

jauh skit dengan pantai AoNang dan penkek makcik Yaminlah – tapi jgn risau.. kat sini ada makcik Pat, makcik Neet dsb.. penkek pun rasa standard je sodapnya..

Ibis Styles Hotel in Ao Nang is a 3 star  hotel which boasts its fine reputations for being able to cater the needs of international tourists. In my opinion – yep, so true. Even though it is not certified as a Halal Resort – we enjoyed the facility and hospitality very much. Adding to that, this hotel also allows customers to bring their pets. So do not scream when you see a poodle on a leash at the lobby. They don’t bite.

The room was exceptionally clean. There wasn’t much space for Ee, my son , to run around but you get what you pay for. You want a bigger room? Rent a suite. Or a family room. Ours was a standard room with 2 single beds. So we were satisfied.

Unforgettable plus points;

  • delicious welcome drink – flower tea. padahal teh bunga je
  • wonderful majestic view of the mountains with its shadows towering over the swimming  pool
  • although halal in house breakfast options are limited – there are plenty of halal eateries near the hotel. There’s even a masjid right opposite the site
  • extra beach towels in our room so we can bring them for our island hopping activities
  • comfortable pillows and bedding
  • free WIFI in every room – there’s no need to leech for connections in the lobby
  • functioning and replenished basic amenities – in room mini fridge, shower gel & shampoo, hairdryer and kettle.

Mr Husband loved this hotel so much he wants to stay here again for our 3rd Krabi trip in the future. And why wouldn’t he? If I had wanted to, I could easily slip out of the room at night and eat loads of pancakes from the makciks selling them just outside the hotel. It is that safe!

Only thing is I prefer to be that sleepy, tired , fat whale at the end our trips and have a good night sleep.

Krabi 2016 The Itinerary

This is our 2nd time returning to Krabi for a family holiday and Thai hospitality is still at its very best. Mr Husband kept saying Krabi is his 2nd home.It used to be Langkawi – begitu cepat sepah dibuang.

We took advantage of the Air Asia FREE tickets promo and booked our hotel rooms through the AirAsiaGo.Com website. We settled on a 4D3N itinerary for 2 Adults and 1 child (hotel + return flight) at a price of RM 692.22 including tax.

This is our brief itinerary and estimated costs. We skipped on certain island tours as we have done them before.

Other miscellaneous expenses include massage therapy, souvenirs etc. I personally did not go to any massage parlour because I was already exhausted at the end of the day. Mr Husband tried the coconut oil massage with a male masseuse (of course) and loved it. It was only THB 200 per session for 1 hour.

My mini checklist for Krabi 2016

Mr Husband exchanged RM 1000.oo for THB 8300.00 to fund our package trips there. I was to cover our dinner expenses and on anything personal I liked. Which amounted to less than RM 250 on my part 😛 I had to remind myself to get things for myself as well because I always seems to want to get stuff for other people first.

Anyway, my next blog posts will elaborate more on the hotel and the safari tours. I hope somebody will find it useful. He he..

Krabi : Final Tips

  1. It is worth to invest in waterproof beg, camera casing, underwear… you name it. Take this from a first time traveler to a beach setting with a toddler. Despite the care a Mother takes to not drop her diaper bag in the water, baby would just tip it at every chance he gets.
  2. Drink lots of water. In fact, drink bottled water. Boil the drinking water. I tried boiling H2O from the tap but urgh.. it was payau. Limestone flavour to it, I have to say.
  3. Haggle but do not bring down the price too low for the tour packages. Even though it did not happen to me, I have read of some tourists being given packed lunch as opposed to some who had a buffet lunch and they were on the same boat!!
  4. Even if you’re on a diet, enjoy the culinary adventure. You are most likely to burn off those extra calories on the next hike up the tiger temple steps.
  5. Be prepared to give a tip. When the lady-boys grab your arm for a picture, they are not doing that for free. They want you to part with your mullah.
  6. Wear comfortable shoes or well surfaced flip flops. Mine had thin soles and I felt I was braving the lava soil. I had terrible muscle cramps at the end of the trip.
  7. If you have small kids, bring a mini life jacket. The sizes they have on board does not fit and unless your child swims like a fish, its worth getting one if you’re thinking of another beach trip to someplace else. I got mine for Baby Zeeq at ToysR Us for MYR 19.
  8. Forget Facebook. Be in the now.
  9. If ever I go to Krabi again in the future, I would love to ; rent those scooters and roam around town, get proper massage from the parlour, and eat more pancakes!
  10.  Be in the holiday/travelling spirits. In other words, be happy, nice and open to new experiences. Its a norm to come across people of different nationalities when you’re on a holiday. They too are looking forward to having a good time and although they speak or dress differently from you, or in my case am a Muslim traveler… Id rather you not say nasty things about my hijab or my religion behind our backs (literally, the seat behind me). You’d be surprised that Mr Husband actually speaks and understand your foreign language eventhough its not English!

Krabi : Tour Packages

Our tour agent was LetsGoKrabi.Com . It was recommended by a dear friend who went to Krabi last year and booked his tour package from this company. He said the packages offered were of a reasonable price and the lady manning the front desk, who calls herself Min definitely gave us a good price. We didnt book through the website. We went to the shop in person so we could haggle more, in a friendly manner that is.

We chose a 2 day package for 2 adults and 1 child (not paying, 2 years old)
Phi Phi Island + Jungle Treking = 3400 BHT in total.

Being a fat muslimah and all (haha..) I purchased a burkini online. I wanted to look picture perfect during snorkeling and all those sandy beach activities. On top of complying with the shariah and all. I also packed a tab of antiemetics in anticipation of being sea sick on board.

I was a first time snorkler (gosh.. is that even a word) and I kept reminding myself to breath from the mouth. And not to panic!

This tour took up nearly a day already starting from 9am till 4PM. Just enough time to get a shut eye back in the hotel for a while before going out again for dinner. Thankfully there were free flow drinking water and pepsi to quench the thirst on the boat. My little boy had no complaints and he gulped on the Pepsi like a pepsi-holic!
