My Face’s Food

“Ugliness is in a way superior to beauty because it lasts”

Serge Gainsbourg

Since I choose to go to work bare faced most of the time, I might as well have good skin. A smooth complexion, almost fair but not porcelain like.. can I hope for acne and hair free? Yahhh.. Mr Husband says I look like a man sometimes with my little moustache at the sides of my pretty pout. Hmph. Evil man.

Some of my equally financially established friends have jumped onto the bandwagons of Clinique and top of the list SK II. Its tempting to invest in a good line of facial care but I think I need to first be an avid and strict abider to the wash-tone-moisturise rule.

I started off my discovery of facial care products with Johnsons clean & clear (I mean who wouldnt especially when they come to your school and do demos and roadshows of the stuff) and later experimented with other brands such as;

  1. Johnsons clean & clear
  2. Biore
  3. Dove
  4. Nano White ( this one is quite a good product but since Diana Danielle became the ambassador, I decided to cross it off my list )
  5. Nutox ( influenced by a british friend in medical school. She came to malaysia for her holidays, bought the product, loved it loads and even resorted to ‘kirim’ through us Malaysians when we go back home). I stopped using because I ended up having more acne than usual.
  6. Oxywash – walks the talk but sounds so not ‘hip’ to use Oxy.
  7. Neutrogena
  8. Hada Labo (latest experiment)

Once Ive got the wash-tone-moisturise rule at the back of my hand, perhaps only then, I’ll upgrade a little bit. If necessary.

A Minci note to Mimie

“A friend is like a good bra. Hard to find, supportive, comfortable, lifts you up, makes you look better and always close to your heart”

I live fully by the words of the Holy Quran.
I live partially by the words of Oprah.

And Oprah advised all the women out there to have 5 type of  friends:

1. The Uplifter
2. The Travel Buddy
3. The Truth Teller
4. The Girl Who Just Wants To Have Fun
5. The Unlikely Friend

And today is the birthday of my one friend who happens to be all 5 of the above. She was one of my first best buddies when I studied in the UK. Boy, a very unlikely friend indeed. I was completely out of her league but she took me as a friend anyway.

We still keep in touch and although we havent seen each other for quite some time due to different working environments, Im pretty sure that when we do meet again, we’ll be able to just pick up where we left and start being silly again.

Happy Birthday Mimie.

Living on a minimal

It seems that I can live on a minimal mode. In other words, living out of a suitcase. A few long skirts paired up with tops that could be worn interchangeably with each other. A number of fresh undergarments and hijabs.  Complete with some sets of brooches and pins. Even my makeup case is limited to store my one choice of foundation, a tube of mascara, a lipstick and blush.

For the record, I am not going on a vacation. More like Im still staying at my inlaws place until we get to move into our own home sometime in the future. Perhaps in the next 10 years few months. Ine year tops.

Inevitably, this is the ‘trap’ that Ive been trying to avoid. Minimal, if one is not careful may lead to self neglect. I worry that I would soon lose interest in even putting on a foundation before going to work or out with Mr Husband. I worry that Id get too comfortable having only a few key pieces of clothing that I forget how to dress up for Mr Husband.I worry that I’d be plain Jane instead of bright, happy Minci my husband once knew.

Again, for the record.. my inlaws have nothing against us  staying with them. In fact, I think they love the idea of having a lot of people in the house plus the presence of ouur baby. Its just that with so little space (shared space) it seemed troublesome to accummulate assets without having a proper place to store them.

Hence nowadays, theres a lot of window shopping on my side cause everytime I feel like purchasing a blouse or anything, Id try to reason with myself by saying,

“And where do you think you’re going to put that? You think you got space? “

and back to the hanger the blouse goes..

But the thing I miss most are my books. I’ve also been refraining myself from going into MPH or Popular to get books. Even TheNewstand for a magazine. But its okay, this time shall pass and once we have our own crib, again.. I want a library!!! He he he.

I’ve been trying to read my medical books for a while now since Im starting work next week. But its the same ol’ routine everytime I open the page.

Log into Facebook. Check updates, make comments, like baby pictures, upload one of Baby Zeeq for Grandma to see, listen to recommended music tracks, watch funny videos, reply comments and it goes on and on.

Then, probably check my email. Delete a few spams before they build up in the Inbox.

Read Utusan. Read BeautifulNara.

Bloghop for a while. Then, fingers started to have minds of their own and click links on those blogs to hop onto another blog.

Suddenly remembered need to look up on a particular recipe/book/airline ticket.

Probably by now got a little bit dizzy from all the ‘computer work’. would lie down shamefully beside laptop and before you know it,

until I get the next bout of headache.

Its a progress if I even manage to flick a page.
