Staycation at Anugerah Homestay

Let’s see, my latest blog update was on the 18th of July. Since then, I have not been blogging much here and on NotaMinci. My mind was occupied by a few things. Mainly, my course assignments, my father in laws stroke, my aunts demise due to Covid-19 (she is one of my favourite aunts), the Basic Life Support course ( I couldn’t really say no, but the timing was honestly shit), buy farewell gift for a superior that I have no idea what kind of person he is (busy sgt ke sampai tak boleh beli sendiri? like hello… aku tak pernah kerja dgn dia.. canne nak personalize gift?) and the prep for The Moss Clan staycation during Eid -Adha.

I am currently breathing a bit. In fact, I am taking leave for 3 days to get my mind sorted out. The exam period for my Psychology degree starts in 11 days.

For The Moss Clan stay cation, I chose a property from Anugerah Homestay Melaka. It was a 5 room villa with a swimming pool. The weekend/public holiday rate was RM890/night. It is located at Durian Tunggal but not far from the highway toll. This stay cation was meant to celebrate Eid and my mom’s 61st birthday.

I chose the place because;

  • it has a swimming pool that the kids would love together with a BBQ pit
  • all bedrooms are air-conditioned
  • they have basic amenities like the fridge, cooking area, cooking and eating utensils. They also provided big garbage bags which were useful to throw our rubbish
  • ample parking space but limited to a max of 4 vehicles. You can park 2 inside the porch and another 2 outside without bothering the neighbours parking space
  • washing machine is provided but we didn’t use them
  • they have sejadah and kiblat direction. alhamdulilah
  • grocery stores nearby. and restaurants. You can even do your evening exercise and walk over to them. Dekat sangat.
  • basic Astro is available. bolehlah tgk 7 Hari Mencintaimu

The downside;

  • it is in a residential area. you have curious neighbours. Although the owner have resurrected a wall near the pool, you still need to be mindful of the neighbours. You do not want to upset them. Children especially, like to peer through the gates and watch you swim in the pool.
  • NO WIFI, NO COWAY, NO AIR CON in the living room but it’s a minor flaw because I could easily access my DIGI from here, we can open the big windows and doors for circulation and part air tu.. we prepared before hand by buying bottles of mineral water to put in the fridge. We can always boil hot water with the kettle they provided. Nama pun homestay, kalau nak sgt2 selesa.. duduk rumah sendirilah kan..
  • Limited towels, so bring your own. Shower gels and dish washing liquid are provided.

To make our stay extra comfortable, I brought;

  • A night lamp. All bedrooms do not have a bedside lamp. So it’s either you sleep in a really pitch black room or open the door a bit.
  • Extra blankets. The tug of war of blankets resume in homestay. So bawak je la.
  • Extension plugs
  • Shampoo

My sister, Aunty L was in charge of our menu. My brothers were in charge of snacks. My parents role is to eat, sleep and enjoy themselves.

Eid Mubarak 2016 : Bringing Sarawak to Malacca

“Selamat Hari Raya”
There’s a lot of greetings like above going on for the past few days as Ramadhan comes to an end. I will miss the time when we learn to solidify the traits of self-control and self-discipline. A time when we re-learn what and who to prioritize over wordly matters.

I enjoyed this years Ramadhan very much. I felt that the opportunities to do good were abundant – it was only a matter of whether I opt to grab these rewards or otherwise. There were times I got too tried after a shift – that I missed Sahr. Thank God that was only one time. Most times I find that I could actually wake up early to sort out the household and perform Tahajud prayers if I want to. Insya-Allah.. now I only have to make it a routine.

I also love Eid this year as my parents are coming over to my place for the celebration. In fact, my whole family will be staying here for a few days to join in the fun of beraya in Malacca.

My little family is in red this year. Mr Husband bought our outfits during Raya Eve. Yay.. Free baju. He he..

After the routine Solat Raya and salam2 cium lutut – the whole family followed my husbands family to go house-hopping at the relatives and basically Eat. My father was concerned that it would be odd to have strangers (referring to themselves) barging in to another persons house but really – they are not total strangers at all. They have met before – when Mr Husband asked for my hand in marriage bringing his rombongan from Malacca to our house for the merisik ceremony. In a way – they would know each other. Then he was more relaxed. And he had the most fun – it was evident judging from the amount of food he ate.

We enjoyed rendang, kuah kacang, sate. Mother made her special Sarawakian Raya dish – Daging Masak Hitam. A sweet beef dish adorned with raisins. It was so good.. I did not want to share with guests. He he..

The 1st day of Eid passed by really fast. Our energy levels were draining by the end of the day despite eating and drinking at every house we went to. Ironic right?

Did you guys do anything special for Eid?

Aidil Adha 2015

I woke up very early on the morning of Eid – because I was excited to go have breakfast at my Mother In Law’s house. What were you thinking ? That’s I’ll be cooking? Of course not.. #icantcook.. he he

The colour theme was unplanned – Mr Husband pulled out a red-dish baju melayu from his closet and both EE and I followed suit by pulling out our very own red attire as well. We performed the solat sunat hari raya at the nearby musolla which was less than 100 feet from my in laws house. Breakfast was ketupat soto with begedil. I had 2 helpings without neither hesitation nor guilt. Yum yum.

Then we travelled to my parents house in Selangor. It was less festive at my own home but it was a season of joy all the same. Father greeted us at the door with a white pagoda and plain khakis whilst Mother was out to Giant Hypermarket with my sister buying stuff for ourย private function the same evening.

Privatela sangat... what it means that we get to do our BBQ in baju kelawar and kain pelikat. Without tudung and stuff. My sister made her annual Shepherd’s Pie, there were chicken wings, hot dogs, mashed potato with gravy and carbonated drinks.

We had to return to Malacca the very next day as I was on the evening shift on Friday. My parents of course understood. We even managed to stopย at Alor Gajah for itsย famous rojak tambi. Eid Mubarak everyone – hope all of you had a good one.

Eid Al Adha this year

Eid fell on post-call day. Post-call routine usually includes a quick hot shower at home, eat instant maggi, lower the curtains creating that dark, cozy air conditioned atmosphere and just doze off – for at least 4 hours. But its Eid!! So korban tido.. and have breakfast at the in-laws instead. *grin sheepishly*

Iย wore aย black jubah (Mom bought at Mekah last umrah) ย over my work scrubs and voila.. and Eid outift in 5 minutes. He he.

SELAMAT HARI RAYA!!ย

Raya 2014 … hoping it will be special and will become a tradition

All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives.

Dalai Lama

I do not recall the exact moment of when Hari Raya means just another holiday. Perhaps it was the killjoy preachers who likes to say ‘puasa kita patut lebih meriah dari raya tapi kita pula buat yang sebaliknya’.

I agree that one should not spend lavishly for Eid thus nullifies all the pahala he/she has gathered during Ramadhan. I however also disagree that we should downplay Eid as an event of joy and celebration. Eid as a personal victory in battling our personal demons as we observe the fast.

I see Eid as a public and accepted excuse for a person to go home and spend some time with the family. To bridge the gap and rebuffer connections. To wear something nice and fresh for a special occasion. To see and visit people you’d never have seen even if you get that long weekend off.

A time to be generous. A time to forget that one eternal enemy. A season to eat special food and taste new delicacies.

This year I am celebrating Eid at my hometown Kuching, Sarawak.

This is not a normal ‘tahun ni beraya kat tempat saya’ sort of thing. This time the whole family is going back to Bumi Kenyalang specially for the raya season – not the school holidays, not for annual leave.. no… it is RAYA. Despite undergoing housemanship in Kuching before, I did not really get to enjoy the festive season as it is. I had to be oncall. Hence, this year is a great opportunity for myself and also Mr Husband to see how Kuchingites celebrate Hari Raya.

It is also my hope to be able to go back to Kuching for Raya every 2 years. Of course my government warrant gives me the privilege of having that once a year visit but for Raya… lets BE able to make it for at least once in 2 years. Lets make it a tradition for my family.

I still have one last call this weekend prior my flight to Kuching. My bags have been packed since last week.

Till then, I wish everybody Ramadhan Mubarak, Eid Mubarak. Take care.
