How did the 2020 bucket list go

I was scanning through the bucket list in my hobonichi megaweeks page. Despite the pandemic, it hasn’t been THAT stagnant after all. The ones I could not achieve were mostly ones that involve social interaction, travel and group activities. The rest of the attainable targets were individual goals and displays of love for my home, my family and always, for MYSELF.

I have yet to be able to shrink into a size that can fit a Minimalace outfit. I am still looking for that Pakistani briyani recipe like the delicious ones I had in Manchester as a student. Briyani diorg lain sangat and I really really miss it. I am putting my hopes up high for the chance to go for umrah next year as I am curious why people miss Umrah so much. Even better, I would like to go for haji. In fact, I am still making deposits into my TH account with references like ‘doakan saya pergi haji’ , ‘beri saya peluang pegi haji’ with the hope that the TH people will read it and push up my ranks as candidates for hajj.

I’d like to go to a Siti Nurhaliza concert or an Nsync concert or maybe it is time to embrace my K-pop soul , a Blackpink or BTS concert. Yikes.. ahjumma goin to these concerts are surely going to turn heads.

I had thought that 2020 would be a great time to play host for everything. A laksa eating session, doterra gathering (thinking of opting out of the scheme at the moment), a book club meeting, a breakfast club meet up at homes, writing journals beramai2 or just something that involves makan2, swafoto and a beautiful atmosphere. Alas, the pandemic got the better of it and I have yet to host anything at my home.

Next year I am starting small with the list. And hope to achieve more with those baby steps in 2021. What about you? how did your list went this year? Is there anything that you’d like to put back on the list for 2021?

Hobonichi Weeks MEGA 2020. Making mine Malaysian-ish

As mentioned before , my Hobonichi’s name is HoboMinci regardless of the type of planner I choose to use for the particular year. In 2020, I would be trying the Weeks Mega for the first time and see how it fares compared to my current Cousin Avec. I love that Cousin Avec has the kind of layout I need but in terms of portability, it can be quite a challenge to bring around especially when it’s bulking up. Perhaps Mega Weeks would bring out that more professional look to it as a so called organized person. Duh.

This video is also available on my Youtube channel

As usual, once I receive my hobonichi, I would need to make a few tweaks to it. Most importantly, the public holiday part of it.

I will need to update this calendar once the schedule for school holidays come out
Last year, I used this space to track and plan my blog post here on WordPress. It did not turn out so well. I was not consistent. This year I will be using it to track my studies, classes and courses since I am only getting 1 planner this year.
The monthly spread to jot down birthdays and important events. The space is small. I will have to write in an 8 sized font. LOL.
My emergency contacts!
My 100. I am going to use it to list down my bucket list of various categories. Perhaps a new book, a vacay location, someone famous to meet, or a special event!

Hobonichi also has a few informational pages which looks interesting. Only, I haven’t learn the language. MAYBE just maybe I would try to pick up on it since my friends in school could read, write and speak it in just 2 years. I took Arabic instead of Japanese during that time. Those who chose the Japanese language had really fun lessons and sensei! We, the ‘Arabs’ and ‘French’ were terribly jealous. Haih.. japanese boyfren come translate for me the pages and teach me..

I really hope I got this last page right. The biodata page..

Big Bad Wolf is coming to Melaka soon. It would be a good time to search for language books, coffee table books etc.. perhaps studying Japanese could be on my bucket list next year on top of Mandarin. Until that happens, sayonara for now.

Event cancellation – my response

20190821_173914-014436791377300305120.jpeg

I had an event which was supposed to happen on the 14th of September 2019. It is organized by my school batch alumni (Batch 2000).  Unfortunately, it had to be cancelled which was something I did not expect. I thought the worst that could happen was for people not to show up after they register. A late start mayeb. Or that I would mess up with the event/booth booking or something. Perhaps I was too naive to think that,

aktiviti persatuan.. takkanlah boleh cancel…’

‘surely by hook or by crook, the event will still have to be up and running’

It took a while to kickstart the planning for the project.

Hence, I took the onus of searching for an event space outside Melaka because most of my batch mates live near the area of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. As someone who is not well versed to the area in these states, most of my research is thus online. But since no one wanted to do it, I thought I’d volunteer even though it was a bit difficult on my part when it comes to scouting the area and such.

I was then on a series of communication frenzy on whatsapp and email with many different people outside of the medical field. I was learning many new things – procedures, figures of speech and interesting terms related to these events. It’s a mix of party, soul searching and networking. I was on an adrenaline high and super excited to make things work despite minimal evident support from most fellow members of the group. I confided in myself saying that “.. they are busy, they will make their contribution later”

In less than a week, I managed to secure an event space and a prominent speaker. An instafamous speaker who does Quran tagging and such. Everything was presented to the Top Committee and since no negative feedback was received, I thought everything was going very well and wanted to give an extra token of friendship for my friends who will be attending the event. I hunted for items suitable as door gifts with a reasonable price tag. I feel it would serve as a good form of sedekah as well.

I also decided to go a bit extra in terms of decorating the place and setting the mood hence bought miscellaneous decor items and fragrance sachets from Kaison. I was that excited.

The time finally came to start promoting the event. We were not pulling the crowd that we hoped for and everyone was worried. Perhaps it was the long holidays but it was already the final weekend of the consecutive 3. Surely, you would want to just stay in KL, right?

But we were wrong and suddenly all the previously dormant members of the group woke up and begin asking questions and making changes to the plan. Suddenly everyone has a suggestion and a quotation of some sort. Was I frustated? DEFINITELY. Bitter? Unfortunately, like any other human being, I was. In fact, on the verge of being pissed off for not recognizing the warning signs of this possibility to occur. Some of these red flags include;

  • less than 50% of support within the same cluster of people. If you have 10 people in the group and only 3 people are committed and on board, you might want to reconsider your project. It will be a waste of time.
  • the top committee are not checking with you from time to time regarding the project. This of course can be a two prong interpretation of such action. It’s either they have full trust in you and your team or simply not paying attention
  • members of the top committee not planning to attend the event or substitute with someone of the same management hierarchy. For instance, if the president cannot attend – the vice president should fill in the shoes. If not, the secretary. What should not happen is the head of a biro who leads the programme and also fills in the shoes as the VIP. That my friends, is a syok sendiri programme.
  • More than 2 person in the group starts assuming multiple roles in the programme. For instance, a runner is also the MC, the usher and manning the registration.

The above is of course just my mere observation. So once the event got cancelled, I had two options on how to respond;

  1. Remain bitter and just refuse to participate in any form of fundraising activities until the big reunion is over.
  2. Conduct a self postmortem, reflect on the situation and learn from it. Hopefully not repeating the mistakes in the future.

I chose the latter choice but it undeniably took me quite a while to work out my emotions. I felt betrayed. Angry. However since I have a lot of responsibilities and projects to shoulder in September, I must move on so that I could concentrate on those tasks.

MY COPING STRATEGIES

  • I distanced myself from social media for a while – just so I won’t vent on bitch mode. Now that I’m calmer, I could blog about it in a hopefully more sensible mode. Did you guys think I manage the wrath well or I can do better? ha ha
  • Writing in my HoboMinci feels good and that was exactly what I did 20190817_204343-017306390315441347442.jpeg
  • I utilized my doterra oils by diffusing calming blends and apply it topically. 20190617_220207-015448911350119519874.jpeg
  • I also bluntly expressed my frustration to those who were concerned, just so they know I have feelings and hopefully would not take my (future) efforts for granted.
  • I made dua to Allah that He would protect me from ill feelings and thoughts. I feel religion in a way helps me to nurture Sabar and accept Qada’ and Qadar. I like to believe that whatever He decides to take away, He will replace with something better and whatever that is happening now is the best for me. InsyaAllah..

As for the gifts I intended to give my friends, I will keep hold of them. I am sure Allah has plans for them. Perhaps to give to those more deserving. I don’t know. InsyaAllah.

MT Washi tape pop up store at Kinokuniya KLCC

I’m a newbie in washi tape. I have only got to know about them since 2015.  I bought my few first rolls from aliexpress. Many months later I discovered washi tape sellers in our local scene. My current favourite is Lootersbox. I really hope they would open a physical store in Melaka one day and conduct workshops and such. I would be their regular customer and buy something on a weekly basis even though they’re just sticker flakes.

Last Wednesday I went to Kinokuniya KLCC to check out the MT Washi Tape pop up store.

I salute Youtubers who could produce content on a regular basis on their channel. I think it requires courage and be a bit shameless on your part to actually hold out your camera in public to capture a moment. I am a bit shy on that part which is an obstacle, I think, if you intend to be a Youtuber or successful lifestyle blogger. But it’s ok, it is a learning curve for a jaded writer like myself. There is always a price to pay for being successful but let’s hope it is all worth it yahh..

I spent just below RM300 in Kinokuniya alone on the washi tapes and FLOW magazine.  I figured since this is an annual event for MT, I should splurge within my means and save more money again for next year’s convention. After all, I did miss the ones they had in Pavillion last year.

If I were to include my petrol, toll and duit makan all… I’d say the trip to Kay Ell is about RM500. Thank Allah for pay day the next day. Regardless, I am a happy lady. A happy mom. A happy wife. Not so happy to get back to work the next day though.
