Raya Prep – Popia Nestum

I have 3 major things to do before Eid;

  1. to complete my pending medical reports – urghhh.. I hate them. So many paperwork
  2. finalize certain details regarding my mini Tabung Minci project for Ramadhan
  3. literally prepare for Eid

with regards to the latter, I have summoned my domestic genki in listing down my juadah raya and building up actual motivation to accomplish them.

Props biar gempak.. semangat mesti ada..

My cookies/cakes would include;

Cornflakes madu (every year mesti ada)

Popia Horlick Nestum (this is new)

Kerepek aneka rasa plus rempeyek of course

Apam mekar – like yeh.. rumah aku pun.. I will serve whatever I want

Kuih lapis – yet to decide which one. Mestilah home made!!

Special drinks

Soursop soda .. or bandung soda.. and like any Sarawakian although staying in Semenanjung… is ayek gas

To start the ball rolling -I made POPIA NESTUM today. Despite its simple recipe, it still took me nearly 2 hours to make it. I loved the result. My son enjoyed the crispiness of it as well and like any wonderful daughter in law – I’ve made a jar for my MIL. So baik and solehah right.. muekekeke.

Manual labour involved a lot of rolling and cutting. And for a pack of 40sheets popia, I managed to fill in a tub of popcorn tub. OKlah hoh..  The powder mixture for sprinkling was easy. You combine nestum, horlicks and castor sugar together. After frying the cut rolls, you just need to cool it down before coating it with the mixture.

Nasi Bujang Senang – Restoran Seri Kenyalang

This is a sponsored post.

Restoran Seri Kenyalang first opened in April 2015 . Currently it is run by the man himself, Mr Khairul who hails from Terengganu and is married to Puan Nora, a Sarawakian. To be precise, my younger sister. Yes, she is paying me for this post in kind. ha ha.

The restaurants signature meals include ;

  • Nasi Goreng Kenyalang  –  which is essentially dabai fried rice
  • Laksa Sarawak
  • Tomyam Kelapa – they serve the tomyam in coconut shell
  • Nasi Budget –  the cheapest form of rice dish available for only RM3.50. It has white rice, chicken and vegetables.
  • Coconut Shake

In Ramadhan however, RSK is closed but it has a pop-up stall at Bazaar Equine, Seri Kembangan. They are selling at Site 32 and the head cook a.k.a. the owner had this brilliant idea of making a simple iftar dish. It’s called Nasi Bujang Senang.

It is basically white rice + turmeric chicken + vege + sambal + kicap manis Jalen. And they are selling it for RM4.00/pax. It’ll be suitable for Buka Puasa Ramai2 or Sedeqah. Do visit them at Bazaar Ramadhan Taman Equine Sri Kembangan today!!

An attempt at #mincibento

I am a fan of anything or anyone close to Kawaii (cuteness). That I have to constantly remind myself ,

“Minci..for gods sake. You are 31. Not 3”

I tried to tone down in allowing myself to be carried away with Kawaii-ness. I used a proper black Faber Castell Ball Pen 1423 1.0 although I am dying to use a ballpen with cute little trolls sitting at the edge when clerking my patients. I recently purchased 2 pairs of court shoes on sale (buy 2 for MYR80) despite wanting to parade around the whole Casualty Unit with striking heels heavily adorned with flowers and buttons. I wear proper professional clothing fit for the budaya koprat thingy as opposed to a gothic- lolita like dress with purple lipstick in the Red Zone.

An account on Instagram for the past few months however, shone an alternative way to channel these Kawaii-ness tendencies in a healthy, adult-y manner. I mean look at those adorable planners with stickers, the mind-blowing arrangement of books, the intricate designs of colourful cakes and pastries .. and my recent obsession; Bento Meals!

Bento Meals which not only looked cute but presumably healthy at the same time. I have to admit, it does require a hint of talent and creativity to produce such masterpiece! And it made me wonder and actually tried to korek that bit of bakat which I hoped is there. I know its there somewhere. Please.. I want to make my own bento..

Since I am on leave today. I decided to give it a go with the little tools I have and ones I manage to find from Daiso. Imagine this was Japan, I could get euphoric from the many available kits they sell there!

Recipe : Beef Rice with Beef Kurma Kismis

Inspired from Chef Hanieliza’s 1 hari 1 Resepi book ..

tweaked to suit the palate of a Sarawakian and her toddler.

Shopping with Hazeeq

It’s my 2nd day on leave from work. I applied for 5 days in total considering I’ll be working very very hard during the Christmas week. So I might as well have my break first before my celebrating colleagues does.

I initially planned for a potty training session during the holiday but it’s not going very well as I have chores outside home which needs to get done. This means Hazeeq needs to be in his Drypers as he clings on to me like a shadow as I run my errands.

We went grocery shopping today at our new favourite place – GIANT, which we noticed have been relatively cheap to its rival TESCO nowadays. Hazeeq was so well behaved I felt like bringing him to AEON afterwards but our stomaches were already rumbling.

We passed a shelf with these rubber rocking horses. I was ready to deny everything he asked for but he was so sweet and ‘understanding’ to exclaim loudly, “kuda mahal.. tak boleh beli”

alhamdulilah.. he he he

But I couldn’t refuse him when we were at the poultry section. He wanted drumsticks – just like Upin Ipin. Chicken are a good source of protein and helps promote child growth so even if he didn’t ask for it specifically, I would still get it anyway. Then there were fish and chicken wings!

Then he asked for grapes and oranges. Good source for Vitamin C – so in the shopping trolley it goes. I added Vitagen and few boxes of Banana Pokka as treats for the boy as well. So for lunch he had one drumstick and another one for dinner. 2 drumsticks in a day!

I hope he will be as tall as his father with all this healthy eating. LOL. Grow honey grow!

Big Bowl Ice, Batu Berendam

If Inuits run this place, we’d probably see a dozen types of ice shaven dishes. I had no idea that our ice ABC could come in various forms of ice. Indeed, having dessert here is an eye-opening experience. The main ingredient is ice and yet, we could add so much to it to make it special. Things like sauces, fruits and nuts.

Be warned though, they come in various sizes and is very very sweet.

To order is simple. Make yourself comfortable at the many tables. Write down the order on the piece of paper. Submit it to the cashier and make the payments. Then.. just wait for the frozen yummies to arrive.
