Krabi : Tour Packages

Our tour agent was LetsGoKrabi.Com . It was recommended by a dear friend who went to Krabi last year and booked his tour package from this company. He said the packages offered were of a reasonable price and the lady manning the front desk, who calls herself Min definitely gave us a good price. We didnt book through the website. We went to the shop in person so we could haggle more, in a friendly manner that is.

We chose a 2 day package for 2 adults and 1 child (not paying, 2 years old)
Phi Phi Island + Jungle Treking = 3400 BHT in total.

Being a fat muslimah and all (haha..) I purchased a burkini online. I wanted to look picture perfect during snorkeling and all those sandy beach activities. On top of complying with the shariah and all. I also packed a tab of antiemetics in anticipation of being sea sick on board.

I was a first time snorkler (gosh.. is that even a word) and I kept reminding myself to breath from the mouth. And not to panic!

This tour took up nearly a day already starting from 9am till 4PM. Just enough time to get a shut eye back in the hotel for a while before going out again for dinner. Thankfully there were free flow drinking water and pepsi to quench the thirst on the boat. My little boy had no complaints and he gulped on the Pepsi like a pepsi-holic!

Krabi : Food Gallery

We came mainly to try the classic Tomyam Gung and Somtam (Papaya Salad).

Soon, we discovered other simple streetfood varieties which included the famous pancakes, fresh fruits, critters, finger food like prawn tempura et cetera.

Even I had something Western on the last day of the stay. Mr Husband thought it was ridiculous to have Penne Arabiatta in Krabi. I beg to differ. I felt compelled to try Western dishes at places that carters to Western tourist. I wouldnt want my pasta to taste anywhere near to the ones served in Secret Recipe or Pizza Hut.

I shamelessly gained 4 pounds from the culinary adventure itself.

Word of caution, Thai food is spicy and not palatable to my little toddler. So he technically had bread and plain rice with clear soup to go with it. Food pricing overall, to me was reasonable. I did not feel that I had to starve for the rest of the month till payday.

Enjoy the pictures. Go on, drool!!

Krabi : Ananta Burin Resort

We took up an offer from AirAsia.Go and grabbed the best offer we managed to scour within the many days we stalked the site.

Flight ticket + accommodation for 2 adults and 1 toddler
3 nights, 2 day

MYR 838.00

I decided to pay an extra 1140BHT to throw Mr Husband a surprise birthday treat. Ananta Burin offered 3 different packages and I chose Package 2. To my dismay however, one of the staff had a slip of the tongue and had Mr Husband (the birthday man!) pay for the package instead of approaching me for the payment. I supposed the lady had a mixed up on whose birthday it was. All in all, he was still suprised and we celebrated his birthday a day earlier. The birthday room deco and the chocolate cake was delish.

I loved the room. I loved that they had both shower and bath tub. I loved that they had a washing line to hang all those wet clothes from that swim in the sea.

We did not suffer from any subsequent miscommunications although Mr Husband had an awful internet withdrawal during those first few hours upon landing in Krabi. The hotel had a policy that all ‘surfing’ should be done in the lobby. I was honestly happy to be ‘offline’ for a couple of days there.

Things were off to a good start. Let the adventure begin!

Ao Nang, Krabi : We L.O.V.E.D it!

Love is better at the beach

It was a trip for 2 adults and a grumpy boy toddler with moodswings. A healthy one too with lots of walking, outdoors and nature.

I wasn’t looking into buying fabric or special items this time.

Krabi’s trip was totally for the experience, the wonderful sea and sand. Also, the mysterious jungle which nests the beautiful springs and pools. Thus, it comes as no surprise then that with only MYR500 spending money, having already paid for the flight + hotel + tour package,  I still have a handsome balance when I came back home.

A mini travelogue soon.

Phnom Penh : Part 3 – Where To Go

We were told that we could finish sight seeing Phnom Penh in one day.

However, we decided to spilt it up in two days as we were carrying baby. Baby is The Little Prince. He may be in Cambodia or London, but once he needs his nap or go for No 2 – the world stops till his business is done. We hired a personal Tuk Tuk driver to bring us around for the 2 days.

Day 1 (Outside The City)

1. Choeung Ek Genocidal Center

Get the audio and spend at least an hour to fully immerse yourself in the history of the area. It was gruesome. The audio narrated the whole incident clearly with details not found in books or television documentaries. There were excerpts of peoples experiences, daunting instrumental music and such.

2. Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum

I was not too keen on this place but Mr Husband was sprawling all over the area taking pictures and scutinizing every single photo/graphic images. I did not bring baby inside the building and remain outdoors fearing that he will get a night mare and such. You know how it is with kids and spirits. Yah.. I can be superstitious at times. Thankfully, baby did not say he saw a ‘kakak‘ or ‘momok‘ or ‘nenek’ during trips to these torture areas.

3. Psar Toul Tom Poung

Also known as the Russian Market. We informed the tuk tuk driver that we’ll be in the market for at least 2 hours. And indeed we spent just enough time to buy stuff for the people at home. I had always wanted to get some fabric to sew my baju kurung for Eid and managed to get a good price for them.

Im thinking of making 2 pairs of baju kurung Pahang off them. The rest of the fabric? Mostly to give away. I ‘borong’ some scarves – for my own use and for my ‘parcel kasih sayang’  to my ladies later. Mr Husband spent more on purses and magnets and nail clippers and such. Of course,I benefitted from his shopping spree as I too get to have 2 new purses. Yippeeee.

Expect the fabric to be sold between $8- $12 per 4 metres.

Day 2 (within the city)

1. The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda.

I searched high and low for an audio booth to make our rounds within the palace ground more interesting. Unfortunately there wasn’t one and no tourist guide was available on the spot in the area. At least the Royal Palace in South Korea had English descriptions outside each building.

So I had to be content with just appreciating the wonderful architecture of the place. Since I barely remembered what I  read about in books. I had wanted to know more about a particular quirky looking tree in the area.

2. National Museum of Cambodia

Our Tuk Tuk driver was astonished that we finished touring the museum in 30 mins. It was just too much history in one day.

Still, a photo is a must. Just so we know we’ve been there.

3. Wat Phnom

This Buddhist temple was our last stop. It was very serene to just stroll in the park. However we had to cut our stroll short as we witnessed two ladies fighting with each other and the last thing we need is to be inconveniently there.

So, thats a wrap for Phnom Penh. Perhaps I should get started on writing about my Korea trip. Ha ha.
