Polygamy

We bought our current house back in 2012. Back then, Mr Husband was very diligent in mopping the house, wiping the fans and cleaning the porch. Due to our growing family and added responsibilities, those tasks were not executed frequently anymore but he has shifted his focus into doing the laundry and taking out the trash.

Recently, Mr Husband bought another house roughly 10km away. It was located in a gated residence, definitely bigger than our current abode. He said it could be like a ‘homestay’ or somewhat like our ‘country home’. Which was fine because our life was certainly not built around that house. The kid’s schools and our workplace were quite a distance from it. This explains why I wasn’t that keen to perceive that house as a possible main home. Furthermore, I was bothered by the thought of how I was going to clean the house. To me, it’s alright to clean on your own if you have a single-storey home but once it upgrades into a double or triple-storey house – you need to have helpers for each level. Even if the lady of the house is a housewife!

Why am I talking about a house under the topic of polygamy?

It was because recently a guy who owns a Tesla went viral for his intentions to practice polygamy. Well, he’s already married with his second wife. Perhaps to him, it was something he could afford to do. Perhaps he has not read this Facebook article, the non-religious part of polygamy, of how hard it can be to handle two wives. There have to be two of everything so that each wife could have the same experience. Each wife gets a London trip experience, and each wife gets the same handbag, the same kitchen pantry etc. Tak penat?

Not to mention the jealousy that comes with it. I mean when my husband bought this new house – I got jealous of the house because he spends almost every weekend there. I had to find my own joy by surfing Youtube videos, visiting my sister and strolling at the mall or something to buffer the jealousy. And it’s just a house! In polygamy, that also means two houses to sort out, clean and maintain. Two sets of in-laws with different qualities and needs.

Tesla man is fortunate that his first wife consented to the marriage. If it was up to me, I’d demand for a divorce first. I later learned that after the union, he is promoting a product that is supposed to enhance male performance in séxual relations.😑 Apeda

Reminders of death

You do not get to choose how and when you die. Everything is written. Termaktub. In Al-Lawh
Al-Mahfuz.

If you are meant to die because of a plane crash – even if you’re not flying in the skies that day – the collision can still happen on the ground while you are on your motorbike or walking by. If you are meant to die because of a heart attack. – it can also happen regardless of whether you are behind a car’s wheels or a plane’s wings. Every day could be your last. Every moment is to be savoured and lived to your very best.

At least that is what the Elmina plane crash reminds me about. I am waiting on its full report. I really want to know why it crashed.

Slap to teach

When this incident made it to the news, I knew I had to watch the video. I googled ‘video viral coach tampar’ and a short clip showed what happened. The coach, a big guy, slapped two minors on their cheeks. That was not the only disturbing thing in the clip. There are some observations about this that I just cannot fathom.

  • The girls did not flinch. It seemed almost normal to them for a grown-ass man to just slap them in the face. It seemed OK to get hit because it was an act of love, an act of concern, to improve their performance in sports. This does not sit well with me because in the future these ladies will end up just like their coach, committing physical violence to god forbid, their children because they want to teach something. Or end up being the receiving end of a punch, a kick or another slap from their partner, their family member, or offending authorities – without a complaint because they thought it serves them right to commit such mistakes.
  • Some people side with the coach’s actions while quoting their experience of being assaulted in their younger years. They justified those experiences as ‘tough love’.
  • The parents of the kids forgave the coach’s actions. to forgive is fine since the coach apologized heartily but then to allow the coach to continue training their children is not just awkward but horrifying. It puzzles me more that the kids approve of this form of ‘coaching’ and still want to continue training with him. The amount of trust and reliance they have on this coach surpassed their ability to be cautious of what may follow. If this was an adult team than so be it, but this is an underage team!

I am glad the cycle has been broken. By authorities. At least for a short while.

For affected parties to reflect on why the decision became to such even though they disagree. To me, slapping and hitting violently under the idea of ‘to teach’ just doesn’t sit well in the current society norm. I am sure it is not only Malaysia that has remnants of this hitting culture. I saw a few scenes in KDramas that have this theme. Of teachers hitting their students in the face. Not so sure if it really happens in current times for in dramas they never really show what happens to the teacher that hit Woo Young Woo in the face when she asked about her eyelid surgery.

Liana tiktoker

I knew it would be too good to be true for someone to build up their followers in an organic manner especially when you’ve just started a social media account. Parading a very hip lifestyle with all the expensive cars and jewellery. It all seems too easy for ‘founder’s to become rich. Does Malaysia have that many millionaires living among us? Just by selling products. And where are these products sold?

A few months ago, a name came up quite often on my FB feed about a Liana on TikTok. She allegedly breached her contract as a talent in a company that manages influencers! I mean we used to have something like Nuffnang that manages bloggers. Now there’s a new social media occupation in town – Influencers!

These companies would pull out all the stops to raise a star. It includes paying for their lavish lifestyle worthy of content on various social media platforms. It was a WOW moment to note that they can A LOT OF MONEY for each talent in the hope of getting a reciprocal income from such exposure. It makes sense that once an influencer is well known (+ number of followers), more businesses will seek them to endorse products or become an ambassador. Companies even have influencer rates if they decide to engage in one. The Gen Z’s pretty smart. Making money from this. Kinda cool. I wonder if I could ever reach that level if I have kept up with my blog since medical school. Ha ha ha.

However, looking at the trend of Malaysian influencers, I don’t think my personality fits in the scene cause they are LOUD. You have to show a lot of things and be really open with your life. At the expense of privacy but then that is what social media is, right? You need to decide and control what you choose to upload online.

I don’t really know what was the ending for Liana’s case but I bet more prospects are now searching for that talent agency.

Election Day 2022

It’s voting time again. I had thought that we could go to Selangor as a family after my husband completed voting, and we hang out at the new IOI Putrajaya after lunch. But that did not happen. I went to my voting poll alone. Driving alone. Thankfully, I just serviced my car by calling a mechanic over to my house a few days before.

I used the POMEN app. Downloaded it through Google Play. Booked the service as early as 630am in the morning for a 2pm slot. He was done with my car in less than an hour and I got to do my house chores too. It costs me a bit more though, just over RM200. I wanted the tree-cutting service to come by too but the man in charge was not responsive. I mean, if I could cut down my own tree, I would have done it but I can’t because of the wires. Dasar jantanzzzz tak guna. Lol, tiber.

I drove from Melaka as early as 8am because it rained too heavily in the early hours. Reached the poll station by 10ish and completed the process in less than 30 minutes. Then, I went to visit my mom’s grave. Baca yassin, doa2 and left. I should do it more often – visiting the grave. It’s very healing. Should bring the kids too.

I set back to Melaka by 1230. The traffic was initially OK but then accidents happen. so to clear the area, there were emergency services and also the PLUS truck. You know that little parade they do when they line up 4 trucks in a row and slow down the traffic so that their team can clear the lanes from debris and all. By the time, I reached Melaka it was about 230pm and I wanted to get the Avocado drinks from MITC but hey, the store’s already shut down. I headed to Batu Berendam instead for the coconut shakes, fried snacks and my kid’s polka dot apam. It was a tiring day. I hope we, Malaysian citizens made the right choice.
