November birthday celebrations

November is the month to celebrate my youngest brother’s and my daughter’s birthday. This time I invited the family over to Melaka. They stayed at my husband’s Homestay (which has yet to be opened to the public). It is a double-storey house with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It is in a gated residential area, which is why I am not really a fan of going there.

Anyway, the Moss clan arrived on the Friday evening. Dad already had dinner at my place earlier. Only then did he go to the Homestay with my husband and son. I stayed behind at my own humble abode because I needed to take my daughter to her swimming class the next morning. My sister and brothers arrived much later. The plan for the weekend was to visit the Butterfly Park and then have a birthday lunch and dinner. It was all on me.

Melaka Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary

The admissions fee has certainly increased since the last time I went here. Adults were RM27 and children were RM22. Our group had 8 adults and 5 children. I thought buying the tickets online would speed up the process of entering the park but turns out you still have to queue in line. I was a bit grumpy because first, the clan was late and second, it turns out that so many kindergartens were doing a field trip that week. Hence, the place was packed. All I wanted was a peaceful Saturday. I noticed that there were a few new attractions such as Feeding the birds, emu and turtles, making origami, a picture with the butterfly fairies and the sight of new reptile species. The food pack was freaking expensive at RM8/pack. I enquired about the group tour but it was only for school and corporate trips.

Find the snakes

The best way to navigate this place upon entering the park is to start from the left where the birds are. Then, once you exit the area, go to where the butterflies are. The entrance is inside the merchandise store. Only then do you go to the tortoise area.

My 30-year-old brother had his first experience of feeding the birds, man – that is a sad childhood. My parents should have brought him out more when he was younger. To be honest, I also had this sort of experience when I got older. Not when I was a child.

I really enjoyed the butterfly area – it felt so magical and the butterflies were a pretty sight. The last time I came here, the butterflies were feeding on soursop. Now they are eating pineapples.

The tortoises were probably feeling very full from all the feeding. Still, the kids were excited with the idea of feeding them.

Lunch at DIMA

Dinner at Ala Kassim, Taman Lagenda

My sister-in-law couldn’t really enjoy the meal because she had a GI upset. I paid a total of RM217 for the meal consisting of a party of 13. We had Pari, Siakap, Jenahak, Sotong, and Sayur Campur with mini nasi lemak and white rice. The night view was nice but there were so many vendors selling their stuff from one table to the other. It is quite merimaskan for me. I just want to have my meal in peace. I realized that we did not have a birthday cake this time – it kind of slipped my mind. Overall, it lacked something in the dishes but the taste was acceptable.

I have yet to plan for the December babies but it should be fun too.

Thistle Port Dickson Resort And Spa

It’s an all in hotel where you can just have a truly relaxing and enjoyable stay within the compound itself. Not only they have a wonderful swimming pool, an in-house spa and private beach, the resort also have plenty of activities for kids! And if that still does not entice you – hey, there’s a Pokestop and PokeGym on site too. You don’t even have to leave the hotel to gain levels and search for Pokemon.

We were there because Mr Husband had a conference to attend. Since it coincides with my birthday – he decided to not share a room with his roommate and instead upgraded his options just so Ee and I could tag along. It was definitely quality time between Mother and Son.

It was a 4D3N stay. The room size and facilities were top notch. Yelah.. its a RM375 rate room per night but Mr Husband just paid like a bit lah.. kira top up jak.

Mr Husbands programmes starts at 8AM till 5PM. While he cracks his head for poster presentations and group work stuff – both me and my son decided to explore PD. We went to the Ostrich Farm, PD Waterfront, 3D Alive Art Gallery,  Oceania Mall (sgt usang).. had meals at the Cowboy Nasi Kukus place, plenty of cendols and coconut drinks plus a McD Happy Meal with Chocolate Cone ice cream.

We are usually back by noon as I need to perform my Zuhr prayers. Cannot jamak. It’s just 66KM away. In the afternoon when the weather is scorching hot – we’d stay indoors and entertain ourselves at the facilities on site.

THISTLE has a media room for kids where they’d play animation movies on the projector. Macam pegi wayang lahh. We wanted to watch  Frozen but missed its screening time, so we went for Penguin Madagascar and Kungfu Panda on 2 consecutive days. Ee enjoyed the Lego Room very much. Strangely he was not a fan of the kiddies swimming pool. He said he doesn’t want to fall sick playing in the pool. Fine by me – I don’t have to get changed in a burkini. Da ketat dahh… bluek

If you have the monetary capacity and need to pamper yourself without moving much muscle – Thistle is the best place to go. Besides, I have yet to try the Spa.

Medan : The Itinerary and Grand Angkasa International Hotel

“With Air AsiaGo, every ibuk can fly”

Finally, I had my birthday trip to Medan last weekend. However, I should mention that this trip has no Brastagi. No Piso-piso Waterfall. Not even a visit to Paten or Hillpark Sibolangit. No Bika Ambon. Danau Toba? Forget it. We think that our dear boy Hazeeq could not stand the 6 hours journey in a confined space. Hence, the mini adventure was limited to just Bandar Medan.. and wow it was still a worthwhile birthday ticket for a party of 3.

1.00 MYR = 3,702.00 IDR

Why Medan you may ask. Why not Bandung or Jakarta. Well.. simply because it was cheap on AirAsiaGo. We were undoubtedly excited about the trip and took much time reading outdated blog entries regarding Medan, till we have overlooked an important fact. The international airport tax in Medan per se has risen to 200 000 IDR fr0m 75 000 IDR starting May 2014. Perghh… nasib jak ada duit lebih. Mun sik.. gine nak bayar yah..

Grand Angkasa international Hotel

In Medan, we lived like royalty.

We thought our hotel was a 3 star accommodation because of the price but it turned out to be a 5 star hotel.  They were also kind enough to give us a room with proper double bed instead of twin single beds that we initially booked. Breakfast was not included but what the heck.. makan luar ajalah.. As you can see, our days were liven up by the spirit of food and shopping. We went to every single pajak or mall we could think of with the BETOR (beca motor) as our favourite mode of transportation despite Hazeeq’s frequent refusal, “naik motor burok agi?”

Here is a glimpse of our itinerary.

Of course the room was clean, housekeeping was superb. Mr Husband made it a point for them to replenish our shower gels that have been used walaupun pada hakikatnya it has been stashed away.. he he. Beds were comfortable. TV reception was satisfactory. We even managed to catch up on movies like White House Down and G.I Joe during Hazeeq’s afternoon 3 hour nap.

Later, stories of shopping and our culinary adventure!!
