Melaka Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary

Since Mr husband is busy – I had to make myself busy. Honestly, on weekends that I’m not oncall, I just want to cocoon myself at home and do nothing. is that too much too ask? because once I ‘find my legs’ – not even marriage could chain me to the house. My Mother is an example. But Mr Husband dislikes seeing me doing that it seems – its like Im an abandoned fat hippo or something. He wants me to do something – well.. aku malas nak kemas rumah kalau dia ada.. semua benda tk kena.. so.. I went out.

So I brought my son to the less popular Melaka Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary. To demonstrate how unpopular it is – when we arrived at 10AM, there were only 5 visitor cars at the carpark and when we neared the ticketing booth – only then did they play some sort of welcoming music through the loudpseakers. Ha ha. When we left, the crowd was not getting any bigger at the car park. There were still less than 20 cars on a Sunday.

It’s a place much smaller than our local zoo.

A White Peacock

Admission fee were;

RM18 for adults (no MyKad or MyKid needed)

RM12 for children (3 – 12 years)

I was looking forward to the butterfly sanctuary – I imagined the habitat to be like something out of Avatar – but no, it wasn’t. Not totally disappointed because I think the curators made an equally beautiful effort. I had no idea butterflies feed on soursop fruit as well. Hehe..

My son loved the reptiles. I hated it. He even wanted to go into the snake sanctuary. Hell no am I walking in there with the snake dangling from the trees! Euwwww euww euwww.. it becomes gross when I imagine them sneaking on you. Its OK if I see them at work or around someone else’s neck.

We also fed the Koi fishes and bought the packet food for RM1.

Hazeeq got to practice on his throwing skills. LOL.. We thought we were to feed the Koi’s at the bridge but it turned out that they had a special area for the Koi’s themselves. So yeh.. we finished it quite early. He he..

This place is OK for that once in 5 years sort of thing unless they have new animals or bigger sanctuary.

Few recommendations : More rabbits would be fun especially for petting. Or a snake informative video session – the ones where you get to sit in a dark auditorium and they tell you about snakes and stuff. Or you could put a ranger in that snake sanctuary so visitors wouldn’t be afraid to step in because someone is in there to bail you out if something happens.Ha ha..

Malacca Premium Outlet, Cendol Bakar & Rojak

Perhaps a valuable lesson to teach your young uns is of how to do window shopping – and that was exactly what we did at Malacca’s newest shopping attraction  – Freeport Malacca (Premium) Outlet.

It has the usual things  – the windmill was pretty. My boy loved it a lot. We tried on shoes and clothes but we did not buy anything. Ntahlah .. tkde nafsu nak beli apa2. After all we are saving our mullah for our ‘delayed honeymoon trip’ next month.

This also means skilfully distracting our boy from going into Toy World and making up creative excuses for him to not go on the carousel or indulge in money related activities. kedekut.

We did have lunch at the foodcourt though. Expensive. Whadya expect? But since Ee finished his spaghetti meal – it was worth every penny. Despite not buying anything, we spent nearly 2 hours day strolling and checking out every store – comparing prices from what it should be outside the outlet. I’d say it’s quite  a bargain for the quality of things one could get from there. Perhaps they’d be even greater discounts during festive seasons. At least I know now where to get a nice pair of Santa Barbara Polo Racquet shoes …

I loved the open concept. I wish there were more trees or shady areas. Perhaps it will be in many years to come.

Our adventure did not stop there. We also made a pit stop at Cendol Bakar Drive thru. Ordered 2 VIP cendol before heading off to Alor Gajah to buy its famous rojak. A day well spent.

End of Year Mini Party and also a mini anniversary at Billionaire Concept Cuisine Restaurant

It was one of those urges to just feed the people. Feed my team. Feed my ‘surrogate family’. So I decided to throw a mini party. No potluck. No speech. No proper boss – just us little people in the unit having a bit of fun and mingling. Plus I haven’t been going to a party or a gathering for a while. I do admit that I’d be absent on purpose most of the time because at these events involving more than 10 people – the introvert side of myself tends to take control. I just don’t feel like socializing unless I’m really in my comfort zone in the right circle of people.

I wanted to have balloons and decor – but it took too much effort. And thinking. Plus I was post-call. Train of thought was honestly ‘lum-py’ at the time. I bought mostly jajan and air kotak. I had my nurse buy simple breakfast for the day.

Within seconds – word passed around …

“there’s food in the MO room”

I gave my female colleagues a face mirror each. My dear medical officers have one too – cute little hearts.

Later in the evening Mr Husband and I celebrated our 5th year wedding anniversary at Billionaire Concept Cuisine Restaurant at Taman Lagenda. Here, they only take CASH. Being a woman who prefers carrying a debit card – I had to korek2 celah kerusi and sofa for hidden stash.

We ordered the fish and chip, macaroni and cheese, kids meal (meatballs + free juice), apple juice and raspberry lime citrus drink. It totalled up to less than RM65. I thought the portion was huge and worth the price. The drinks were expensive and not much of a choice unless you’re into all those hipster sinful sugary drinks which have caramel, oreo and whipped cream in one mug. The meal tasted OK as a whole – Mr Husband commented that the mac & cheese tasted like the ones he had in Russia as a student, so it must have tasted good. Ee finished his meatballs and his juice  – so thats a good sign too.

A toast for many wonderful years ahead.

Dinner at Sukiya in August. Today.

August will be a crucial month for my family as we make preparations for a new phase in our life. This will be the first time during our time being married, to be apart for a duration of more than 3 days (at least) as Mr Husband will be pursuing his studies in a different state and I will be the sole parent of EE on most weekdays with the aide of my in-laws. Alhamdulilah, for wonderful in- laws.

We try not to be anxious. To be honest –  I think this new adventure would be quite interesting as I am planning my very own ‘5S di rumah bersama Ee’ project whilst Mr Husband is away. I enjoy the idea of giving Mr Husband surprises regarding our cosy little home everytime he comes over for the weekend or holidays be it an inspiring one or just weird.

We try to spend time quality time together despite our busy and hectic schedule both work-related and social obligations. Even if it means just lying down in the same room and falling asleep while Big Hero 6 is on TV. Yes, that is still quality time as our feet tickles each other softly in a very tired manner. Ha ha.

Earlier tonight, we did the extraordinary. We had dinner outside on a weekday night and dined-in instead of the usual tapau. There were not much of a crowd at Aeon today and Ee was at his best behaviour. We had our respective gyudon meals at the Sukiya japanese restaurant – certified as HALAL (feels the urge to inform this before somebody decides to run amok yelling sake!!!)

The beef gyudon with cheese is tasty. So is the teriyaki chicken meal set. I have yet to try Japanese curry and am honestly intrigued to know how it taste like. Watching the japanese people eat their version of curry on TV looks so delicious. Well, maybe next visit. Too much calories in one day.

Ambience was nice. Price was deemed reasonable after a very fulfilling meal. Apparently, they also have promotions on lunch sets daily. Do check it out. Dinner was simple and we managed to gulp it down in less than an hour in between our conversations regarding work and gossips – hence free parking!

We reached home soon enough and my boys were already in Slumberland once their head touches the pillow. zzzZzzz

Crispy Battered Fish, Taman Lagenda Malacca

For the past 2 weeks, my little family have grown so accustomed to not being in a space physically together for not more than 6 hours a day (minus sleeping hours) that I find it a bit awkward to enjoy this free weekend. A weekend without wedding invitations, no family gatherings, no errands to run.. in short nothing major. Just the 3 of us in the house lazing around. I am not even post-call although I did have a terrible night shift. Instead of clocking out at midnight, I had to leave an hour late – driving under the moon back home.

After Fajr prayers, I slept in. I woke up horrified at 10 am to see Mr Husband and The Son return from the grandmother’s place fresh from breakfast and a shower. I battled through folding the piling fresh laundry only to realize I have another basket of dirty laundry to wash. It just never stops right…

Lunch – I decided – was to have it outside. I have no kudrat to cook. We chose a place very close to home. The Crispy Battered Fish at Taman Lagenda.

Although it had no clear signage mentioning its Halal status and it’s Facebook page it seems were dominated by reviews in the chinese language, I was convinced it was Halal. Plus the management team did say that they attended a course in handling halal food – just the certificate has not been granted.

It was helpful to see its banner spelled out Selamat Datang in jawi. It was reassuring in a way to know they have no pork or lard on their premises. It was clear that the owner was a non muslim but I am happy that they took all necessary measures to ensure their Muslim customers feel safe to consume the food at Crispy Battered Fish.

The interior was posh and ‘deceiving’ – you know how some people are reluctant to enter a restaurant that looks too posh. But hey, if it makes you feel any better, the price range is pretty much like The Windmill Station in Bukit Beruang. So try relate to that.

This joint serves mainly fish with a side dish of either the buttered rice or french fries -which are air grilled. They also serve other Western dishes like spaghetti etc..

Mr Husband had the black pepper chicken chop with Iced Lemon Tea. I had the Grilled Dory with Mushroom and Cheese sauce with fries and broccoli. Hazeeq had the garlic bread and mushroom soup. I had the promo RM1 Iced honey green tea beverage.

The total bill amounted to RM41.30. NO GST. No service tax.

I think this place is worth checking out especially when you’re craving for fish. The menu is children friendly and the space is gorgeous. They also take reservations for those coming in a big group. If only the drink-making counter could be more secluded. It just looked weird behind the cashier. Otherwise, there is plenty of free parking space at the area so you could enjoy your meal and socialize for hours there without worrying of getting a ticket.
