Parcel Kasih Sayang (PKS) 2024

It has become an annual activity to get my family members and close friends a gift for Ramadan. Nowadays, it has become easier for me as I just need to select them from Shopee and have them delivered to their homes. This year the PKS theme is healthy fruits and nuts as opposed to the Tiffins last year.

I also ordered my favourite cookies from an online baker. These cookies are for my siblings, in-laws and neighbours. I even put money packets inside for those who are celebrating Eid outside Melaka next week.

I went to Jonker Street last weekend and got 50 boxes of Beryl cookies. Those are for my relatives and random people in my thoughts. For example, our security guard at the workplace and at my kid’s school. I think I spent just above RM500 at Beryl’s. Parking at Jonker is a nightmare.

I have also been getting a few Ramadan gifts as well. For example, the Medjool dates that I look forward to every year from my bestie Mimie. Then there was a cute mug set from Waniraul and a Mahnaz gift box from Lily Tensai. I love Ramadan because of this. Connecting with old friends and family just to tell them that they are in my thoughts forever.

Hosting Eidul Adha 2023

I was excited to host because it seems a while since I had people over to the house for a meal. What’s the point of having a dining table if you don’t plan on using it kan? Perhaps later I can invite some people over for lunch on a Friday when I am on leave or something.

Setting the house

Cleaning a home is not something I can do in just one weekend. It takes at least a few weekends to get it into order as I don’t have any helper at home nor do I enlist the services of professional cleaners. I feel that when it comes to Malaysians, privacy is easily invaded as the people like to ask personal questions and I’d have to evade it like a bullet. They’d be asking what you do as a living, the this and the that.. so unless I feel like sharing about it one day, we’d just do it ourselves.

One of the major cleanups I did was the gym and storage area. Previously it was full of bags of plastic bags filled with old curtains, clothes and recyclables that I wanted to get rid of. Now that I know where to bring this stuff for donations, it makes decluttering easier. There is a Kloth care bin at Peringgit but it looks uncared for and messy. I chose to send mine to the Lotus donation bin instead. It also helps that the disposable trucks from SWM come here every Monday to collect our recyclable items which makes these environmentally friendly efforts easier.

I charged and put up my solar lights for an aesthetic night setup. It felt like a cafe outside. I bought a lot of lights from a seller on Shopee as I plan to paint the walls and drill more of them later – after my exams in August.

Menu List

The menu I wanted to prepare started the day before Eid, which was on Wednesday as my dad has already reached my home. I decided to make Lamb Briyani using Adabi’s instant lamb curry. I ordered Sate. Boiled some instant lemang and chopped up my chickens for the Ayam Masak Merah dish.

I went to Mydin for my shopping trip as the items are cheap and there’s a lot of variety to choose from. I spent nearly RM400 on everything as I also needed to get some items for Matin’s goodie bags, a BBQ stand, charcoal and other miscellaneous things. I bought my marinated drummers and ikan tenggiri papan from here as well for our BBQ and umai.

Our BBQ was on a Saturday morning because my sister needed to leave by lunch. We did not have one the night before because there were mosquitoes in the yard. I don’t want anyone to get dengue fever. So I prepared a normal home-cooked meal for her which consisted of ikan bawal, stir-fried vegetables, my umai and telur dadar.

I also bought some rolled cakes from an online Shopee vendor. The visuals were great but the taste was mediocre. I am thinking of sharing some of these cakes with my daughters’ friends at kindergarten. Our Eid mornings were in fact very simple and cosy.

Parcel kasih sayang

I just realized that I have no photos of my PKS. These are bags filled with food and gifts for my dad and my siblings. This time I gave them a packet of Instant Coffee from Arifcafe, Cadbury’s Chocolate Drink, Indomie, cookies, chocolates and snacks for my nephew and nieces. I also gave 3 bags of daging korban to my siblings as sedekah.

There will be more celebrations to come towards the end of the year. There will be loads of birthdays and parties to go to. I look forward to more mini-staycation as well.

Ramadhan 1438H

As usual, I am oncall on Eid. This time its the 2nd day of EID. Despite that, preparations are still ongoing for the big day. We will be going over to my MILs house on the first and then to my moms on the 3rd.

I have yet to master the art of cooking rendang and kuih kacang. So not domestic but it’s OK.. I pun merancang nak beraya kat rumah orang. HA ha ha. Although cooking Eid culinary dishes is not my main forte, I still make it a point to prepare other things like;

  1. Parcel Kasih Sayang  – This is a must every year to my girls of Sharoe Green Lane and Lily Tensai. The list is tremendously growing as I include more people that matters a lot in my life into the list. This personal tradition started when I was in medical school and I enjoyed putting up these gift parcels so much that I decided to do it at least once a year.   20170610_123817  20170610_113729
  2. Duit Raya – to the many nephews and nieces of my siblings and cousins, friends children, staff’s kids and of course my favourite, warded kids during Eid. Which is one of the reasons why I don’t get sad for being oncall on that day. I don’t give out a lot but I’m sure the sick kids would enjoy the money packet design more than my RM2 in the envelope.  FB_IMG_1497663261220
  3. Kuching trip – I try to visit my relatives in Kuching every year. Be it during Eid or otherwise. I have been drafting my list of souvenirs and kuih lapis recipients. LOL. It’s an annual gesture as a little ambassador of my state Sarawak. And of course a little Thank You for letting me take a long leave to go back home.

Then there’s the usual cleaning and stuff. HUhu. Thank God post-raya Mr Husband is on his semester break. So he will foresee most of the house chores and initiate our Projek Mega for the house. yeay..

3 day weekend every week please…

I think every week should have 3 weekend days. The first day of weekend will be camouflaged with you going to a course or something. So it’ll be a somewhat productive weekend. The middle day for you to rest or spend time with the family. Whilst the final day is to pick up on leftover chores and make prep for work.

So today, the 2nd day.. was my liburan day – berpoya2 and have fun. I get to wear fancy makeup and shop for nonsense. We wanted to watch a movie but nothing awesome with the correct timing was on. Most were at times coinciding with the calls of prayer which was kind of inappropriate. Yes, we could have solat at the mall but takpelah.. we rather do it at home. We’re a very cheapskate sedentary couple sometimes. We could only walk certain number of steps. I think we stop at 5000 steps and groan of tiredness.

I bought a new eyeliner from Hermo.Com the other day. It was from a Korean brand, MISSHA, which I have grown accustomed to as I loved their BB Foundation Cream a lot.  I have been using the foundation since 2013 and getting em supplies online. Prior to this particular eyeliner, I have tried from Maybelline but they have discontinued that particular line I liked, plus Datuk Siti Nurhaliza was not their product ambassador anymore.

The MISSHA eyeliner is marvelous. It washes off with water!! Taking ablution with it has never been easier. it costs a fraction of what Sugarbelle cosmetics are selling at right now but the x-factor seems similar. It peels off easily without smudging your complexion. Pretty much like you lekat gam rona itam rah mata and kopek nya.

I also played around with The Sugarbelle Cosmetics Nude Range. Mocha Dream is my new favourite now. The pigments are not that heavy and it reminds me of the Papaya Colour lipstick I used to wear during my medical school days.

Coincidently there was an Elianto Warehouse sale at Dataran Pahlawan today. Im not a fan but my sister is.. So I got her some stuff simply because I love her. 😛

I also got extra face mask and that lippie balm + eye glitter as goodies in my Parcel Kasih Sayang. Can’t wait to decorate the envelopes and post them off.

As of tomorrow, it will be a designated day for grocery shopping and preparing slides for an Organ Donation talk next week. I just hope I am not PM Shift on that particular day. I would be so disappointed. Like, very. And then I tak mau kawan you.
