My mothers genes have Generosity encoded in them and because of that Tabung Minci was created

I made a day trip to my moms home last weekend. It was a 2 hour drive from my place and I was anxious with the thought of bringing my kids along. I prayed that they will behave and that Ninie especially would not poop in the car. Alhamdulilah, the journey went fine. The pu rpose of the trip was to send my mom n my sister’s stuff.

In return, amusingly, I got stuff too. Which was way more than what I have brought with me initally. I ended up huggling back to Melaka a set of Tefal cookware, baking items, clothes, a book and food. The ever most important deer meat ! My mom will not let the matter rest until I taste the venison.

Mum also updated me about her social activities – her marhaban group. She said their annual dinner is coming soon and that they will be an election for the committee.

You know being a leader, you still need someone with money. At least, that is how it is in my group, it keeps the group going. Self funding helps to oil those little bits in the operation for it to run smoothly, she says

She narrated how sometimes she would have to pay things forward first, lend money to those in need and paid back without interest, get gifts to boost motivation but still she felt great to be able to do that. To her, these deeds are a form of sedekah. To her, Allah has placed her in a position where she is able to lend a helping hand in ways that she is capable of. And if her role comes in the form of giving financial aid, then why not?

I have always known her to be really wise with money. Thrifty but generous at the same time. I learnt from her that as moms – we should think about our children’s finances. She would keep part of her money in our savings account and this went on until I finally got into college. Because of that, I am doing the same for my Syazmins. I would keep aside as many RM20 notes as I can to be kept in their accounts.

As of my mom being generous, paying for a friends meal, hosting a party or getting gift for people that she loves dearly just comes by naturally. She would buy things from friends if she knows that her friends could make a living out of it. She is that supportive. And that gesture is slowly becoming second nature to myself as well. I mean, I try. And it does make you feel good about yourself when you do things For Yourself and not expecting people to return the favor. Making someone else happy makes you happy. Most of the time. And every good things does not have to come in the form of giving money.

Despite that I still make my own charity fund which I call Tabung Minci. Inspired by my moms generosity for sure. This is where my monthly elaun keraian goes too. From here, I make scheduled monthly donations to Al-Yateem Islamic Relief Programme and Mercy Malaysia. The remaining funds I would use for the occasional public donation drives, to sponsor activities related to clinic or personal causes, individual sedekahs etc.

I took time off recently to sort out my burned out life. I also decided it is a good time to keep my Tabung Minci engines running. I am preparing care packages for kids & babies that come to my Klinik Desa. I sent out Parcel Kasih Sayang (kinda like a Raya goodie box) to my Wanita Besi Eropah  (WBE) girls too few days ago. On top of that, I made Eid cookies for my friends at work. I made the usual Cornflakes with Dates & another variation is Rose Honey Cornflakes. I bought the Rose Honey from Ninso.

It’s just a simple gesture to acknowledge how much I care about them too. These, I feel is my form of good deed and sedekah too. I just hope Allah accepts all of them and grant me Pahala and Jannah.  This small act would not have been possible without the support of my husband and blessings from my mom. I fund her activities monthly (read: elaun belanja .. ha ha ha). I hope to also reap the benefits from her good deeds too. InsyaAllah.

Feel free to read about my Tabung Minci ventures by searching hashtags : TabungMinci & Sedekah/ Sedeqah. I even dedicated a page for Tabung Minci for my own record. 2019 has yet to be updated but we are threading the year slowly.

A daytrip to Universal Studios Singapore from Johor Bahru

We are a family of 4. I have a child in primary school and a toddler just over 14 months during the trip. We went for this short excursion during the Melaka public holiday long weekend in April.

We initially drove from Melaka and then stayed at the Hotel Sentral in JB where our bus was scheduled to pick us up the next day.

I wrote about the hotel here.

And these are the ticket prices I mentioned before in a similar blog post.

uss price

I packed my bag light but with enough supplies to keep the kids happy. Some of the things in my tote include;

  • Small thermos for hot water to prepare Ninie’s milk
  • Few empty bottles for us to drink and istinjak. There are loads of water coolers all over the place. InsyaAllah, dehydration would be the less of your worries
  • But mind you, the sun can be really hot. So bring along a mini fan or hat to cover your face
  • Apply sunscreen religiously
  • Lots of wipes.
  • Snacks for babies. Although they did not perform a bag check on us at the entrance, we thought we’d be safe and not smuggle in too much outside food. Furthermore, there are halal-certified eateries inside the theme park.
  • Comfortable footwear
  • Bubble play toy. Bought those mini ones at Eco Store. 4 for RM2.10. It was a bargain.

On the day itself, we had breakfast at 7am in the hotel restaurant. I also made sure our son relieved himself as many times as he could before we got on the bus. We departed by 0815 am at our stop. To be honest, the trip from JB to USS itself is less than an hour BUT what kept us waiting were the pit stops at both Immigration offices. Malaysians getting out of Malaysia is easy, it’s getting into Singapore that begs a longer queue. Thankfully, our bus for that day was not full. So the wait took less than 30 minutes at each stop. We were able to arrive at the USS by 10am ish.

There were numerous tips online on how you wish to make use of your time there. But with kids, everything can be unpredictable. There is no order. You just venture in and pray for the best. Most of the rides have height requirements for children and Ee is at an age where it is possible to get on almost all of them.

Can babies enjoy USS?

Absolutely, even though they lack the memory of it. Ninie was able to enjoy the Shrek 4D cinema. In fact, we entered the premises twice. More for the cool, air-conditioned surroundings. Even then, Ninie had fun experiencing the jerky movements of the chair and ‘special effects’ which complemented the short movie.

She could have also enjoyed the merry-go-round but she was fast asleep then. So only Ee and I went on the ride.

In the New York section, there is a mini behind-the-scenes ( BTS ) cinema that Ninie could enter too. This place basically shows how, for example, a natural disaster is emulated and designed for a movie. I thought the scene presented to us LIVE was so realistic. Storm, fire, ship.. everything!

Lunchtime at Oasis Spice Cafe

This is one of the food premises certified as halal in USS. It is located just in front of The Mummy Ride. Although the interior is Egypt-looking – it serves biryani and the biryani reminds me of the one I had when I was a student in Manchester, UK. It was that delicious. I could actually cry because I really miss this biryani recipe.  Unlike the ones we have in Malaysia. Price kena tutup mata though.

This particular site is fantastic as it lists other Halal eateries you can try too in USS.

Here is my attempt using the Remove Unwanted Content of Photo app. Yes, the name is that long. As you can see, there are a few irregularities in the picture above.

This photo is taken during my long queue for The Revenge of The Mummy ride in the Ancient Egypt section. The waiting line was long but the wait was fun nonetheless because the design of the area was awesome. I really did feel like I was in a lost tomb and that The Mummy could attack this mummy anytime. The ride did make me feel a tad nauseous, especially after my biryani.

Prayer Room

It’s a small building located between Ancient Egypt and the SciFi City. Just behind the locker area. There is a partition for men and women. Of course, visitors must be considerate of each other as each space could accommodate about 3-4 people only at one time. They provide prayer garments, mats and ablution facilities there. Telekung dia warna warni and it is a very clean space.

Scheduled Shows

We managed to enjoy the Sesame Street Anniversary Show. Unfortunately, my kids do not recognize these characters since local animations have a stronger fan base in Malaysia. We have Boboiboy, Upin Ipin and Didi & Friends to name a few. If you’re not Malaysian, you should consider checking them out. Especially the 1st Boboiboy movie and the recent Upin Ipin Siamang movie.

In the Hollywood area, there was a wonderful singing stage show. They sang from melodies coming out from the jukebox. I was in awe to see those very Hollywood sorts of old-school cafes you see in the movies with the neon lights and big high-up in-the-sky signboards. Those diners la where people get pancakes and coffee. Or a quick lunch.

We departed from the USS at about 1730H ( I think). It has been a while. We had dinner from the food trucks near the hotel. The trip left us feeling elated and rejuvenated in a way. I have never had so much fun in a theme park. Would really want to go again. Time for another piggy bank.

Body Scrub Workshop by Workshop 17

MainPlaceMall USJ had a Craft Fair happening just this weekend. I loved that apart from the craft, there were stationaries and plenty of workshops to join in. I missed the Stationery Buffet though.  *cry glitter* Haih, if only I lived in USJ. There were a lot of interesting stalls. I even had a henna tattoo drawn on my hand.

I signed up for the Body Scrub Class hosted by Workshop 17. Although my mom was like skeptic and remarked ,” benda tu pun nak belajar?” – I deafened my ears and went for it anyway. Moms like that. Lepas tu dia nak jugak. Ha ha ha.

I used Google Maps to navigate my way to Mainplace Mall and it was only a 20 min drive from my moms house. The kids? Left them with the dad.

Our instructor for the hour was called Yen. She was so pretty and gentle. Always encouraging us to be creative. She even gave us extra tips on how to further make our scrubs become prettier.

We each received a goodie bag. Inside, there were 2 empty jars for us to put our scrubs in, a wooden spatula and cute, instruction cards showing us how to make these things. I was so pleased.

I signed up for the class online at a fee of RM 79/pax. This is after Craft Affair announced it on their IG page. As usual, I was anxious for having to go alone. And meet new people. Although I also have that part of me who wants to hang out with new friends. New butterflies, maybe? hihi. So the Introvert needs to be at least an Ambivert during these events.

We have the option of creating our scrubs from either essential oils or food meaning oatmeals, coffee, cocoa and green tea. The base is sugar. Be it brown or white sugar. Then we have food gel for colours with various ‘toppings’ such as rose petals and buds. I thought the table was colourful.

These are mine.

1 : Chocolate + vanilla + rose water

( to wind down and relax)

2 : Lemon + grapefruit + bergamot

( to freshen and revitalize)

Yen did caution us to keep the jars in a cool area. But not the fridge. And definitely not under the sun or in the heat of a closed room.

I came home from the class learning something new. I think it is something that I could do at home and teach others.  I look forward to attend classes similar like this in the future like making lip balms and such. Perhaps later, I will gain my wings to become a better Butterfly Blogger and then, I’d have enough experience and courage to attend next years Butterfly party. InsyaAllah.

Bodyshop Malaysia – The LYB Club and The Bodyshop Skin Defence Range

Ever since I watched this video, I thought to myself “I should take sunscreen more seriously” eventhough I am indoors most of the time.

I mean, just because you’re not under the blazing sun, it does not mean that the UV rays are not shining among us, right? However, I did not want to resort to wearing those hard core sunscreen brand you apply when you go to the beach and give off that white cast appearance.

I also knew that my makeup products, despite boasting having SPF’s will not give me the protection I need. Hence, when The Body Shop (TBS) started marketing their Skin Defence Range, I was sold.

This range is not new though. Apparently it has been around before in 2016 based on reviews I saw in beauty blogs. Makes sense that I had no idea as I have only recently been obsessed with TBS. Ha ha. of course there were mixed reviews. After all these people who review them are experts or aficionados in the subject of beauty.

So here is a non expert point of view. From the whole range, I only bought the face mist (SPF45++) & the multi protection essence (SPF50++++). Simply because I want the 20% discount if we buy 2 items from the range. I did not want the serum since I still have the Drops of Youth Serum and was not keen to try the facial wash as I am already using a good one from doTERRA. And I don’t moisturize so getting a moisturizer just did not make sense.

I love that the texture is light.

And has that lovely soft floral scent to it. It doesn’t feel sticky to your face hence I was comfortable to wear makeup on top of the essence. This goes to both face mist and essence. I was advised by the saleslady to wear the essence as that layer before you apply makeup and use the mist later during the day as a ‘top-up’. I however did my own regime.

20190427_154329-017734781730855981302.jpeg

I used 2 squirts of the mist as my base for my makeup in the morning. The coverage was OK I think. And then later in the afternoon, after Zuhr prayers – I’d just wear the essence with my compact powder and a dab of lipgloss. (light makeup)

I hate that it’s a bit pricey for such small quantity though.

Tapi namapun Malaysia, anything Bodyshop is mahal skit. ha ha ha.

20190427_154305-014259920955630979828.jpeg

The Facial Mist was retailed at RM139 for 60mls. The essence was at RM125 for also 60mls. I really hope that one day TBS could do this ‘recycle your bottle programme‘ which earns you points or something. It’ll give some sort of motivation to finish the product and save the earth at the same time.

With the additional points from this purchase, I was able to renew my Love Your Body (LYB) Membership. This will entitle me to various perks such as free gift wrapping for the whole year, discounts on my birthday, attend exclusive LYB member events (if any) and other promotional discounts. I just need to spend at least RM300 for the year to renew my membership. So far, my favourites from the store are their bodywash gels, the peppermint foot scrub and perfumes. I have yet to try their makeup range – perhaps it is something I will look into this year. =)

Acah2 blogger

Blogging used to be the IN thing. Now it’s the time of the InstaFemes or Youtubers. I am not quite sure if that is how I want the direction of my hobby to go.

I love writing. I like it when people make comments on what I write about. Which are mostly close friends in real life and those I love connecting to on social media. I am not so sure if I can handle blog readers by thousands like the more famous, colourful and outspoken ones.

patient perli kawan aku pun aku terasa kena cubit. apatah lagi kena maki if opinion tak sehaluan. kah kah kah.

I used to give one of these cards out a long time ago. It was something I designed WITH the help of the available templates on Photobook. Acah2 femes. pastu gelabah bila orang yang ko ngumpat jumpa blog kau. Terus private post.

20181122_2038075184716327263681203.jpg

But I missed moments of making new friends. Especially non medical friends which is why I think I got drawn into doTERRA. It’s another form of social adventure alongside being part of the butterfly blogger group.

Anyway, I have a social engagement this weekend. Organized by the group in collaboration with an F&B business. Kinda like a blogging assignment which I applied for.  LOL . If I do this right, I might just be able to reconnect with bloggers during ‘my time’ and forge new relationships. And perhaps get more fun assignments. Hihihi.

Cheers to a wonderful year. Gitew.
