Grand Ion Delemen Hotel, Genting Highlands

We went to Genting Highlands for the Melaka’s TYT Public Holiday. We wanted to go to Genting Skyworld. Only to be disappointed again. I will tell you why towards the end. Anyway, Mr Husband booked a 3D2N stay at The Grand Ion Delemen Hotel situated at Genting itself.

The layout of this hotel is really confusing. It has a few towers to begin with. Either way, just start the maze running at the hotel reception first. Even getting to the lobby can be mind-boggling as a first timer. The moment you park in the allocated building, head towards the lift where the tween numbers are. For example, lifts near pillars C12 and D12 on the respective floors. From that lift, press G to the main lobby. Then, from there, you will find another lift and press level 7, which is also a Level 3 upon connecting to a different tower. Can you see what I am getting to right now?

Level 3 is where all the magic happens. That is where the pool is, the dining area, the food stalls, the picture place etc.

Our room was on Level 16, and so from that lift of Tower 2 (Level 7), we found our way to Tower 7 (which is now Level 3 for it). We found our room. The size was comfortable for a party of 3. We had an RM20 burger for dinner, and our snacks were puffed in the drawer.

Mr Husband had breakfast included in our room rates. The choices were 3-star hotel delicacies. My daughter gave a thumbs-up for their noodle soup, though. She said she would come here again as an adult just to eat the noodles. That’s good. Then I can tell her to study well, get a good job that earns fantastic wages, so that she can spend it here, at Genting. I was able to get my protein in as they had this wonderful egg station, from fried, scrambled to omelettes. The beverages were also nice as they had everything from hot coffee to cold iced lemon tea. It was not entirely disappointing.

After breakfast, we took the GRAB to Skyworld on one of the mornings. Yes, GRAB exists at Genting. We did not take a lot of photos as the fog was super thick. Plus, we’ve been here before. Honestly, I was sad that the ride at EPIC world is down again for this visit. We were really looking forward to it. We even brought our raincoats. However, my daughter had a new experience. Since she has gotten a bit taller, she can now go on the roller coaster ride at the Ice Age section. She was thrilled. My husband accompanied her before asking multiple ‘are you sure?’. I personally am not a fan of high, whirling rides because I have vertigo. We stayed there till noon before making our trip back to Melaka.

Overall, it was a great stay. Pricey for sure!

The long weekend holidays in the highlands and KL

It was one of those anxiety-inducing trips because I had no idea where we were going. I did not know the final destination of our mini holidays and the temporary abode we were bunking in. I dislike being in the unknown. Simply said, I dislike the feeling of being not prepared.

We ended up going to Genting Skyworld. We departed from Melaka at 6am and reached Genting Premium Outlet by 9am. Then took the cable car up to the highlands in the foggiest atmosphere ever. The pictures look lousy. A few areas were shut down for renovation. The Eagle Ranch section was still not opened. Then, one of our favourite rides which is the Epic boat ride was suspended due to technical issues. That was a bummer as we really looked forward to it. We honestly felt that we were scammed out of our tickets which were paid at peak-hours rates. We kept circling the area hoping that the Epic boat ride would be repaired soon enough. Unfortunately, it didn’t and so we left the place at just after 2pm.

Wanton noodle

We had lunch at the cafe in the Ice Age area. I loved the wanton noodle meal. It was delicious and the portion was fulfilling. The kids had a strange mac and cheese bowl with parfait as dessert.

We stayed the night at a duplex apartment located at Eco Cheras Mall. It was thus easy for us to just roam the mall in our free time. It was basically an open area that fitted a living room, kitchen and a private room (bedroom) on the top floor with its own toilet. There is a guest toilet with a washing and dryer machine near the unit’s entrance. It has a fridge, microwave and kettle which was good enough for our length of stay. I have no idea how much it costs per night but it must be reasonable because Mr Husband rarely goes for overpriced hotels and such. ha ha ha. The residents/visitors do not like sharing lift spaces though. They would try their best to shut the lift door by pressing the buttons to avoid others coming into the lift. They would even X out their hands to show ‘no, you cannot step in’. It’s understandable if the lift is super crowded but there is plenty of space and the lift at this place is not the type that functions all at the same time. Mesti ada 1 or 2 that is under maintenance. Typical apartment issues.

We managed to sneak in a movie – Planet of the Apes at the mall. Lunch and dinner were mainly at Nasi Lemak Wau, a restaurant located at the ground floor of the mall. The sambal was not spicy -which I liked. We ended the trip by sending our son back straight to KPPN. He is one of those weird kids that enjoys going back to school. He requested that he reach back the hostel by noon. Maybe he wanted to kejar solat zuhur at the surau or something.

HoboMinci : Another long weekend

I did a list of things to do. I accomplished less than half of it. I was having too much fun.

.. and this was what happened behind the scenes.

The layout of the pages in my HoboMinci is still experimental. I wanted it to be more like Amy Tangerine or Aina Kristina but I seemed to be quite frilly like Rainbowholic. Hahaha..

Today was a great normal Sunday

One could easily tell my state of mind through firstly my pile of laundry and secondly my grocery supplies. If the fridge is like ’empty’ of peeled fruits or at least 2 types of vegetables in the bottom drawer – that is an indication that I have been neglecting myself and the household.

It will mean that I have turned all my family members during dinnertime into Italians for god knows how long as I’d probably be serving them pasta or spaghetti for days. Breakfast will be like the English with our toast and coffee. Forget about tea and scones though. Not applicable.

I was glad to be oncall early on during this recent long weekend. At least despite being post call and sleeping the lethargy off the next day – I still have one full day to get my stuff sorted. And boy I was motivated to just keep things in line. Mop rumah je payah sikit.

I managed to keep away some of my folded clothes. Only to be replaced by a new pile of course. I spent 75 minutes at Kipmart getting proper food to fill up the fridge and pantry with slightly more nutritional options. I feel more human having seedless grapes for snacks and that green leaf stuff in my soup! We even had homemade ayam goreng kentucky for lunch.

The best part of the day was when Mr Husband booked tickets to see Pete’s Dragon. It’s been a while since we watched a movie on a weekend. Together. The 3 of us. I think our last movie was Avengers: Civil War.

Pete’s Dragon got me feeling very sappy and kinda got my eyes welled up in tears since the beginning of the movie. *bawl like a mad chicken here* thank god it has a happy ending. And our final pitstop of the day was a dessert treat at the Big BOwl outlet. What a great Sunday.

Lost World of Tambun, Ipoh

I never liked waterparks. It feels odd having your clothes stick to you hippo body in public. No amount of joy could replace that embarrassing thought but I wouldn’t mind dipping in a private pool though. Still we went to Sunways Lost World of Tambun all the same, because it was a long weekend and Hazeeq’s mom is hating her job already and wants to go elsewhere. before she hates everybody as well.

We bought the tickets to Tambun online and got our tickets through a special booth. As expected, there was a bag check for outside food and drinks or any prohibited items. Perhaps you can save on the mineral water by bringing in the same bottled ones they sell for a freaking RM4.50 in the park – the one with the blue label and a mountain on it I think (i don’t remember the brand now)

the weather was lovely - the sky was blue and the mountain was ever so green

Tambun  is divided into a few smaller parks inside.

  • Amusement park – kind of like the one you see at funfairs. shoot to get a toy. merry go rounds and stuff.
  • Water park – where the slides and giant pelampungs are
  • Tiger Valley – we were too early for the tiger show so there was not much to see except the lazing tiger in its captivity
  • Tin Valley – pretty awesome for picture taking. lots of props and nice scenery
  • Adventure Park – rock climbing? go ahead
  • Petting Zoo – my sons favourite place. mine too.

At night, it is liven by its special Hot Springs and Spa. I daresay Tambun has something for everybody from the young to the elderly. My in laws enjoyed the stroll around the area. Loved the landscaping especially at the Tin Valley. Those mountains are just WOw! It makes me feel like wanting to go China and see the precipitous pillars in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park with my own eyes!

Here are some of our pictures;

at the Tin Valley, it's got lots of history along the walk - how it was back then, what the tin is used for..

merry go round tambun

i honestly wished i could put the snake around my neck.. ha ha

We finished the visit to Tambun in less than 3 hours. ha ha. That’s because we did not spend much time at the water park. Celup2 kaki. Even Hazeeq dipped only half of his buttocks in the kiddie pool. He loves his animals but hates the water I guess.
