End of year To Do List

It’s nearing the end of the year 2022. Have been doing some stuff for the past month. This was my TO-DO list. Some of them are in progress.

Deep Clean House

This is akin to Spring Cleaning. Getting on the knees and elbows to clean the nitty gritty stuff like in between the window grill space and all. The air conditioners have not been serviced for quite some time. I will do that early next year. I am thinking of giving away my old china to a thrift shop too since I have not been using it much.

Declutter Media

After my recent panic with Google Images, I feel that this is something I need to do for at least 3 to 5 months. Before this, one of my friends was saying 128GB is a lot of storage but being someone who loves taking photos and videos, 128GB is not that much space. I store my digital images and videos in an external disc for safe-keeping and a reassured mind.

Adjust financial commitments

There are various categories to start with.

  • Commitments – my loans, insurance and monthly payments of anything like kids’ school fees, subscriptions etc
  • Personal – for my groceries, self-rewards, holidays, makan besar and all
  • Study fund – I keep some money aside to pay for my tuition fees. The fees will become higher as I progress in my studies.
  • Tabung Minci – my charity fund for Ramadhan packages, donations, and anything that involves charitable acts
  • Kids savings – I deposit a certain amount of money into their accounts every month
  • Personal Savings – everyone needs an emergency fund

Settle Zakat

We are all familiar with Zakat Pendapatan. This is something I deduct from my paycheck monthly. But there is also a Zakat Wang Simpanan and Zakat Emas. My gold hasn’t reached it’s haul yet but my savings have. So, I need to calculate the amount and pay it every year. I wasn’t aware of this before but it is something I learn with time as I want to fulfil my responsibility as a good Muslim.

Plan Work & Study activities

Work wise it is about slotting in awareness events, courses, meetings and other medical-related activities. Study-wise it is about managing time to do assignments, study and attend e-tutorials.

Evaluate relationships and connections

I would scroll through my friend list on FB and discard any profiles without a picture, inactive or with personalities that suddenly become horrible. I would also remove followers on Instagram that may appear dodgy or bot-like. I’d make a mental note to keep in touch with my very small circle of friends too.

Set blog and Youtube content ideas

I have started drafts for the past few months and scheduled them to be published intermittently to keep this blog alive. As for Youtube, I thought I’d just record whatever I can and think about the core content later. Not the best strategy but this is what happens when you don’t do this full-time.

Survey kid’s venture for the year

Once the daughter completes her second dose of the C19 vaccine, I am going to enrol her in a swimming class. As for my son, he seems to be interested in learning Japanese. And sign language. Once he makes his decision, I’ll find him an online course or a tutor who could come by on the weekends.

Find a skill to focus

Polishing my Mandarin is still at the top of my list. the journey is a bit slow and challenging when you are in this alone but knowing myself, if I want things to happen, I will make them happen. I am also interested to enhance my skills in digital media and photography. I should not be too ambitious though since next year is my final year studying psychology.

Ohayou HoboMinci

My Hobominci is a Hobonichi Techo 2017. It took me about a month to read about it. Another week browsing the website and making decisions. And finally just a few minutes to click ‘add to cart’ , fish out my credit card from my purse and wait for the yellow package to arrive.

Most planneraddicts are raving about how functional and wonderful this Japanese planner is. The Japanese are after all widely known as being systematic. We have been adapting their style and systems of work into our daily practice. The 5S stuff remember?

Although bullet journaling is the more popular option in my current planneraddict group – I feel it is time consuming for myself because of my job restrictions. Then I saw a beautiful blogpost explaining the Hobonichi. I loved it instantly. I wanted it more than any Neelofar Hijab.

I chose a blue cover for my A6 HoboMinci. I wanted something I could stuff in my bag. A cute little one.

Plenty of pockets to store stickers, washi and paper clips. Perhaps a note here and there?img1476794341512.jpg

It has a plastic cover on top of the leather cover. A ziplock area is at the back  – I can put photos or quotes or doodles there.

I used this section as a habit tracker. See how in December I have failed in certain habits. Uh-oh. The Monthly section will be put to good use as I skim through my activities for the month. I could get an overview of what I should prepare for the month.

I also loved that now I have a page for my daily planning. I’d put my schedule on the left side of the planner whilst the right side or any space on the page for my quotes or thoughts. Adorned with colourful washi and stickers.

On the start of every month, there’s an empty page. I am going to use it for my highlights of the month. For instance, send a birthday card or read a particular book. Perhaps enroll in a new class or skill workshop. 😛 It can be like a dashpage to list down priorities of the month.

THE CONS : I need to set it up to suit the local scene which means I need to put down the national holidays and school holidays manually. penting tau long weekend. Sometimes nothing particularly interesting happen on that day – so I end up writing random quotes and thoughts – which can be boring. finally it is expensive especially with the weak ringgit. In fact I’ve been thinking, if I really love this system I might consider a faux hobo next year but of course nothing beats the real deal right?! mestilah nak yang ori..

I woke up with a plan ..

I woke up with a plan knowing that today would be horrendous. We are still short of people at work.

I envisioned that my little Hazeeq would wake up without a fuss. That he would gulp down his bottle of milk before 630am and voluntarily strip off his pyjamas for his morning bath. After wearing his day clothes that he chose for himself – he would then get into the car with his chosen toys for the day so we could arrive at grandma’s house by at least 650AM – this will give me time to say HI to the mother in law – make some small talk before rushing to work at 7AM.

I then hoped that traffic would be fine – that the traffic lights would be all green shortening the pit stops I have to make before arriving at my supposed destination.

So far so good..

Then plan continued with me going up to wards to check if the patients have been transferred over from the tertiary hospital for their operation here this morning. I feel blessed for both of my patients were in and adequately fasted. This means I can have a quick breakfast at the cafeteria before the surgeons come to the operating theatre (OT). Quick is 7 minutes eating time of nasi lemak and a bottle of mineral water. Otherwise, I’d just wait to have my proper meal during lunch or if the emergency unit is awaiting the arrival of this emotionally labile princess than I’d skip lunch and bear the hunger till dinner.

I did skip lunch and delayed my Zuhr prayers – felt guilty afterwards and prayed to ALLAH that he wouldn’t give me a difficult resus case in the midst of this busy-ness. My cases in the OT finished a bit late and I was so worried that my colleague would be left alone to manage the emergency unit. He turned out fine and cheerful.

The plan also included a short trip to the Record Office to collect my pending medical reports. And also to hand in my leave application form to the administrative office.

Both chores did not happen.

I planned to leave sharp at 4PM so I could fetch my son promptly and we both head to Giant Hypermarket and do some meaningless grocery shopping. And also fuel up the car since the bar is already at 1.

That also did not happen. I ended up having dinner at my MIL’s house and arguing with my boy of who must get into the shower first. I had to be first. I need a change of plans tomorrow. A better one.
