Happy Parcels from Kakjet & OwnDesignBook

Imagine dragging yourself to work because you didn’t get enough rest over the weekend and suddenly.. TADA... 2 parcels were there on your work table ready to be unwrapped and explored.

My first parcel came from a good friend – Kakjet. Previously as part of my ‘parcel kasih sayang project’, I have been sending her and 3 other ladies the occasional goodies parcel just so you know –  make them happy. The contents range from books, shawls, food or silly stuff like pencil cases, pens etc.. I wasn’t expecting anything in return because I’ve been doing it for years now, hence it does come as a surprise to receive a cute little parcel from her. With a note from her son and daughter!

Full of skincare products .. and a shawl. Perhaps she is a fan of the Melaleuca product – I am keen to try that soap which is packaged like a chocolate bar and the lip balm (it smells so nice)

And haruslah tak sabar nak try shawl purple yang baru.. muekekeke

My second parcel was from an Instagram Seller : OwnDesignBook

I’ve heard good reviews about her service through friends who ordered their personalized notebooks from her. The only catch is you have to wait as most of her items are pre-ordered. To be honest, I don’t mind.

Some positive reviews online;

Planner 2016 by Sofie Adie

Birthday present – Nabila Medan

Custom Made Book – Syira Lokman

I ordered the Stickers Package Set at RM65 including postage. I placed my order through Watsapp which she replied promptly. After making the necessary payments online, I sent her ‘proof of payment’ to her email and basically wait. And tawakal.

The items arrived within the next two weeks and she was very kind to inform me when she delivered the package together with the tracking number.

Now I have enough stickers to last me for at least a year!!!

Weekend in Kuala Lumpur at Izumi Hotel, Bukit Bintang

Apart from being my fathers part time personal assistant (PA), I have also been kept busy with my proper job as a medical officer. I have been selected to attend a weekend conference. Yah.. bila mana ko tak oncall dia suro gi kursus – Thank god, the conference was beneficial and interesting. buatnye dia suro aku attend rashes in pediatric patients.. or asthma in pediatrics – aku akan mengamok sebulan.

So I happily booked a hotel near the venue of the conference. I was not willing to splurge that much money at JW Marriot itself, so I booked Izumi Hotel. Somehow rasa tertipu dengan Agoda.Com because the rate offline was cheaper than online. Tapi takpe.. rezeki hotel.

Both Mr Husband and I are not really familiar with Kuala Lumpur. So we were technically tourist in our own country. WAZE was hopeless in directions – hence turned to Google Map for help. The entry to the hotel was into a very small Jalan Berangan just under the fly-over near the Arab Restaurant (middle pic). Go slow, you might miss the turn. Turned out, the hotel had a GREAT location.

Like wow.. dalam map nampak jauh sikit tapi the shopping places were like so near!! Everything is within walking distance. The husband and child should not by any means get bored okay?!!! Pavillion, LOT 1o, Fahrenheit Shopping Mall, Sungei Wang plaza was practically sepelaung away. There were lots of options of restaurants to have a meal. Arab? Malay? Western? Chinese? A bar? You name it!  For a while, Bukit Bintang seemed like a foreign place because of the flock of international tourists everywhere! So meriah!!!

We did not even have to use our car which was kept in the ‘lift carpark’ of IZUMI hotel which was co-shared with Fortuna Hotel. I was so impressed.

The ladies at the hotel reception were ever so helpful. We had complimentary newspaper (The Star), free WIFI in every room, complimentary drinking bottles of water and coffee in the room. On top of that, there was an ironing area and water dispenser on our floor (level 8) for both hot and icy cold drinks.

My boy loved the shower. Interestingly, there was a small glass window separating the bathroom and the bed, so I can watch over my boy while he so called independently showers himself. Ha ha.

We paid about MYR 130/night. There were breakfast options at its very own IZUMI Bistro but we didn’t take it. I would definitely choose this hotel again in the future.

Munafik

this review has spoilers …

Any movie that leaves the audience in laughter or in tears will be remembered. MUNAFIK is a local movie in Malay language which is promoted as a horror, scary movie. The kind that’ll make you jump out of your skin or pee in your pants and make your popcorn fly in fright while you try to keep looking at the screen through gaps in between your fingers. I ended up watching it drowning with tears not out of fear but out of empathy and sadness.

It tells of a man, ADAM who is battling with the loss of his wife in a car accident. In his local community, he is akin to a healer with Islamic healing abilities. Despite still grief-stricken 3 months after his wife’s death – he had to return to his daily job and help the villagers in need. And be a strong father to his son who keeps missing his mother. Together with his best friend – almost like the Supernatural brothers – they’d be ghost busting demons and jins by reciting words from the Holy Quran. Things became to get haywire as he tried to heal Maria, the daughter of a prominent figure in the village. Maria was possessed by a spirit of unknown origin and it was up to them to find out and exorcise it.

However, just like any normal human being – the highly respected ADAM is also subjected to flaws in character. The most prominent in him being ANGER. He was angry and unforgiving towards the person who killed his wife in the hit and run accident (killer was revealed towards the end of the story), he was angry to his son, father and caring members of the community. He was angry that his wife was taken away by ALLAH.

And this ANGER was manifested in such a way that I find easy to relate. The things he did and think about was like what I think I’d probably do as well in moments of insanity. I’m not quite sure about digging up the grave but shouting at your loved ones.. handing out threats of hitting or spanking your one and only son ? .. well… I guess it can happen if we fail to take control of that surge in power.

I need to mention that the possessing demon sounded so real – I could have nightmares for a month.

But the ending.. was heartbreaking. The hit and run driver was identified as Maria (of course)  – the MUNAFIK being Maria’s father who sealed a deal with the devil to terrorize the village and kill off the holy men, in return for wealth, power and a young wife. But what hurt me most was knowing that ADAM’s son was also killed in the accident and all the flashbacks he had afterwards were just figments of his imagination. It was so sad. DAMN SAD.

I think my friends need to watch it – but I’d sell them as a horror movie. Because once I mention SAD, they’d be like .. ‘kenapa cerita seram boleh sedih? ada twist ke?”

For a smarter 2016 …

R.I.P Samsung Mini Galaxy.I value our two years of being together but not its time to give way to the new girl in town. And so all my photos and videos will be powered by Samsung J5.

The idea of choosing a smartphone is for me to kind of be smarter in managing the many different aspects of my life. Be it as a wife and mother. Or an MD. And now a mini entrepreneur?? #2kerja

I downloaded my usual Apps from GooglePlay and it includes;

  • Quran for Android
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Medscape
  • Notes
  • WhatsApp
  • Youtube
  • Waze
  • WordPress (of course)

Only this time since I’m already on U Mobile – and using a DATA plan, I thought of exploring more on the App side. I stumbled upon 2 useful Apps so far.. I am open to suggestions… and my pick for this month are;

  1. ANDROMONEY
  2. GOOGLE PLAYBOOKS

ANDROMONEY

Although I don’t keep a tab on what I spend. And although I keep receipts for things which are tax-exempted … I have so far yet to spend more than what my monthly budget. However, this year I felt it is appropriate to have an eye on the mini details of my spending. Just so I could first, satisfy the increasing OCD trait in me and secondly to just gauge if I have a lot of extras for future blog or family related projects.

I find this app easy and cute to use.

I could key in the amount of money and categorise not only my expenditures but also my income. The emoji used are kawaii (so thats a bonus) and it gives you a warning if you spend more than 50% of your budget. It also gives you a nice, accurate monthly summary of your money flow. Smarter still, you can choose to ‘analyse the data’ using the pie chart or graphs in the app. Cool, rite?

GOOGLE PLAYBOOKS

Previously I was not convinced with this app. I thought the book selections were horrible and picisan to start with – like buku tak laku di pasaran so you decide to sell online plak. To my astonishment I saw a very popular book listed in the app. It was in fact the first book I bought on the app.

Saiful Nang  – Kisah orang Menang.

Screenshot_2016-01-24-11-21-37

Minus his controversial ideas and sometimes egocentric tendencies, I feel there is still a lot one can emulate from his success. I mean for instance, the famous FB EP Physician, just because he is really into BN – it doesn’t mean that we should disregard his sound posts concerning the health issues in our country, right?

One must learn what to follow or listen and read. Decide for yourself and justify on your own accord when people asks of it.

Buying the book online was a breeze. It was cheaper from what they sell physically in stores. In less than 5 minutes (with good internet speed) I was able to download the book in my app and read it on the go. I think this is phenomenal. At least people don’t think I’m a nerd when I choose to read a book on my phone and they’d probably think I’m checking on my Whatsapp messages or something. Furthermore, it saves me from judging eyes – just because I read about saiful Nang it doesn’t mean I support everything that he writes and share on his FB wall.

This app has many cool features too. You can bookmark your page. Highlight interesting passages, make notes on certain points and best of all you can sync these thoughts with your Google Drive for keepsake.

I saw Mat Luthfi’s books on Google Play Books too . I’m hoping Diana Rikasari would consider putting her #88 Love Life book online as well. I would be a very happy nerd on the go.

the blind faith by paperdorable

First of all, please click play on the video and listen on …

Last week I decided to purchase The Blind Faith (silver) Bundle from Paperdorable after seeing Perempuan Jomblo got hers on Instagram. This package was supposed to be filled with little surprises from the stationary and kawaii department. You don’t get to choose what goes in the bag. All you can do is wait for it to arrive and act surprised!!

I received a lot of cute pens – that was the whole idea right? I was more thrilled to receive the paper products and masking tape though. Perhaps I should explore more of the planner and stationery scene here in Malaysia and find the more suitable retailer to satisfy my needs for a variety of sticky notes, memo pad and such.

blind faith pens

That capsule like pill is a pen – one of my favourites I have to say. of course I loved the sticky notes more.

I was delighted when they included the masking tape in the bundle.

The elephant pencil case was adorable. I intend to use it tomorrow. I think these pens should be able to last for the next 6 months. Rasa sayang mok guna pun ada.. but hey, you can always get another bundle afterwards. Perhaps you could try the Gold Bundle next.

Thank you paperdorable
