Youtube algorithm

I once saw a video by Ali Abdal mentioning that he had to make 77 videos first before his channel gained momentum with currently 4.67M subscribers. Nowadays I see that a lot of Youtubers do not need to make 77 videos but already have more than 10K views per video with at least a few K subscribers.

It makes sense considering the amount of engagement they are doing on their respective social media platforms. Consistency is The Key but Engagement opens the Door. The rest speaks for itself.

Looking into the type of videos that Malaysian Youtubers (the famous ones) like to make – they tend to give value in terms of knowledge or pure entertainment. Meaning, the Youtuber may choose to make a sick prank video or such but would still have people watching it out of pleasure. It doesn’t have to impart knowledge or wisdom – it just needs to entertain. Then there are food-related contents which I know are not my turf. There’s quite a handful of talking videos as well where the owner would review a car, a place, narrate a story or anything. That is interesting. The faceless videos are also making it around in the local scene. There are just so many niches one could choose to do.

I love silent vlogs but the ones lurking around are made by uni students – I find it quite difficult to relate. I am still exploring by clicking on these accounts hoping to find ones that I like. Perhaps something from a Malaysian homemaker. Although it is understandable and challenging to wear the hijab at all times.

In Episode 9 there is not much going on. I have deleted quite a few videos that I feel had no continuity to the clips I had at the time. But like all wise Youtubers say, keep shooting. Keep creating with the tools that you have.

VLOG update on Chinese New Year

Malaysians love the festive season. Cause we have the holidays.. how did you spend yours? 🤗 did some edits on the clips I captured using my new Samsung A32. I need at least 1000 subscribers before I could even try monetizing my content. Consoling myself that Ali himself made 77 videos before he could actually make money from his content. He didn’t even compromise on quality. I don’t want to jump onto the tactic of just churning out videos for the sake of just making them cause it doesn’t really reflect on what I’d like to show on my channel.

ANYWAY

This year both of my Chinese neighbours were very generous in gifting me oranges. Like the whole box! I was grateful and touched by their gestures. One of them was a former colleague at my workplace. He got me cake and coffee for my birthday last year. I had no idea he knew the date. I didn’t even put my birth date on Facebook.

My solar lanterns are not shining brightly this year. Very disappointed. Must be the panels.

I will be taking leave next week for a day to kind of keep up with my OUM assignments. Rasa macam makin banyak benda nak kena baca.

Starting 2022 with the past

It was a mini celebration for the kid’s birthdays. To be honest, I still feel lemau and not up to socializing but for the fam – I will fight No Mood and get on with it. As a Youtube amateur, I managed to create more than 1 video for 2021. I was aiming for 10 but it was harder than what I perceived. The motivation needs to be there on top of great organization skills.

Afterwards, I need to get a pen and paper to sort my thoughts. The brain cells are a bit chaotic up there. I decluttered the blog’s followers the other day. I discovered that most of them seemed like bot accounts, a few were inactive and some appeared dodgy. So, I am back to nil followers today and see if the content I put in writing here is worth new subscribers in the upcoming months.
