A Christmas weekend in Cheras

As parents, we were very grateful for this long weekend. It’s a little breakaway in the two-week school holiday break. I consider this an opportunity to scoop the kids somewhere since we couldn’t really apply for leave during this time. Mr Husband initially wanted to go to Kuantan but with the rainy season – it can be quite a risk to go there as the place could be flooded. Cheras is only 2 hours away and we managed to squeeze in a quick visit to my father’s house at BSP.

PRESCOTT-ACE HOTEL

Mr Husband booked two Standard Twin rooms. So, there’s one for us girls and another one for the boys. This is a 3-star hotel with amenities like FREE WIFI, a mini fridge and a water dispenser in the hallway. Breakfast was included in our room rates and I think my husband paid for less than RM100/night. Of course, The Suite would cost more but even the standard room was comfortable enough.

The hotel is nestled within a very vibrant community with Aeon Mall just 11 minutes walk away. Better still, there is a metro station 2Km away. This makes travelling around KL better.

Check in is at 2pm. So, we had lunch at IOI City Mall first before going there. Parking is easy and there’s just plenty of place to eat around there. One of those places is Soru Station. We also went to Ikea Cheras for our meatballs and photo-taking in the mock rooms. On our final day of checking out, we visited Pusat Sains Negara.

This is where we had our dinner the same day we checked in. They serve a mix of Malaysian and Western dishes. The meals are decent with appropriate portions and reasonable prices.

The layout has changed. There used to be long, communal tables lined up next to each other. Perhaps the management team has come to realize that Malaysians don’t share and prefer to hoard the whole table even if it’s just 4 people because the bags need a seat. So there are more 4 seated tables in sight with a few bigger ones for the larger party. We had the usual meatballs and mash. Mr Husband had the nasi lemak. Our drinks were refillable. It’s one of those RM2.50 per glass drink.

After our meal, we walked around Ikea enjoying the aesthetic looks of its showroom. Then, we were done for the day as our daughter needed her nap.

We went to Pusat Sains Negara the next day and that will be in another post.

A happy mother

I don’t feel like a smart-ass reading this, but I do feel different. I bought it for RM 10 each at the Big Bad Wolf (BBW) held at MITC. Its like , “hey.. Im reading a non medical book!! I feel so enlightened!!”

Sometimes you get so tied up reading around your patients or doing clerical hospital work, you tend to forgot an alternative world around you – of food and pleasure, of books, or love and joy. Therefore, I am very thankful for this long weekend. On top of splurging on books at the BBW sale, we also  brought Mother to IKEA to jalan2.

Enjoying the meatballs were out of the picture – the queue was already freakingly long and it was only 10am. So we just munched on the 1 ringgit curry puffs on our way home. We did not buy anything major, just a set of plastic ware and utensils to match.

Any biased onlookers (especially the young ladies behind us) who saw what we had in our trolley would probably say ‘barang sikit tuh pun nak beli kat IKEA?” but to me its worth more than what it seems. Every time I bring my parents out to the mall or a restaurant, I tend to remember a blog post written by a blogger who calls herself Perempuan Jomblo. 

Its of how one day she went to Daiso and saw a middle-aged lady shopping with her elderly mother. The mother wanted to put several cute kitchen items in the shopping basket but was stopped by her daughter. Reason being, the things her elderly mother wanted to buy was ‘useless’ with a short shelf-life etc. The blogger seemed to notice an expression of disappointment on the mothers face and so took a quick look into the basket to see what the daughter bought. In it, she saw little hair clips, some funky items-god-knows-what and so on.

So this blogger thought to herself, if the daughter has that will to satisfy her inner child to buy these so called kawaii stuff, why not grant the same pleasure to her elderly mother as well – who also teringin nak beli benda2 mcm tuh. So yes, it was a short story but it sure do have a strong impact onto myself.

Hence, despite I only have 2 items in my big IKEA trolley.. if it makes Mother happy, I am happy too.

Hazeeq is 3

I am an enthusiastic mother when it comes to birthdays but I have long accepted that I have no talent in baking my own 3-D cake with fondants and all. Nor am I gifted in making those pretty party decorations and goody bags. Hazeeq doesn’t even have friends outside the family and as of my proper friends.. well, we are too far away and most of them would be oncall or doing something with their family. Ha ha ha. Lumrah berkawan with doktores… 

So it was a weekend birthday without the mat salleh thrills and frills. No clowns unless you count my silly jokes – the one that make cheeky kids go ‘HAr Har Har’ weakly.  We finally managed to set our foot at IKEA and the new mall in town – IOI City Putrajaya.

Mr Husband insisted that I try the famous Ikea Meatballs. He said it was a 7/10.

I had to ask,

“So which meatball gets a 10”

“Yours..”

Of course, I have always known the meatballs I make are wonderful to his palate. It’s like the one and only gift God decided to give me over any other meals. Why can’t it be lasagna!! Huahuahua. Any culinary challenged person like myself could easily make one though. Mince meat + holland onions (lots) with loads of black pepper. Nyum nyum. 

On the other hand.. at IOI City Mall, we tried to window shop each floor but it was just too massive. I gave up after Daiso and Parkson. I was itching to buy a pair of court shoes but none of them were screaming a confident ‘BUY ME!!” to my face. So few dollars saved there but I splashed it on the birthday lunch – at JOhnny’s steamboat restaurant. I am pretty convinced that if my mother was there (she had another social function to attend to), she could replicate the recipe with a mere lick of the sauce. She is that talented!

It wouldn’t have been a perfect birthday weekend if it wasn’t because of the cake. My younger sister bought it from her trusted bakery Berry’s – a Japanese chocolate cheese cake and oh em gee.. it was the best cheese choc cake ever. Kalah Secret Recipe. The 2 hyperthyroid Doraemon as cake toppers was a good touch but turns out too creepy to eat. I mean.. look at the eyes. It looks like its gonna pop out anytime!

Bday EE3

Well son, you may not remember this once you reach 7 but I hope you know how much we love you judging from the adorable pictures we took of you. Mummy hope that you will learn a lot of good things as you grow up, to be gracious to others and be content with what you have. To always strive for greatness but never to forget remain rooted to the ground, as we all come from the same humble beginnings.

Mummy love you very much and will try to get you a new adik to play with. *grin*
