Ponderings on becoming an NGI

I scrolled my FB feed today and digested the usual ‘news’. Of syok sendiri viral issues, local crimes, nonsense politics, recipes that I can’t seem to find time to make and sales post and recruitment which is supposed to get you out of poverty or debt.

Then there was this little post by one of my favourite NGI’s; Syed Azmi. He was kind of ‘coaching’ a young NGI (Non Governmental Individual) wannabe, Imran, by asking a few basic questions that, in my opinion could help guide someone to the desired charitable purpose.

Some of the questions were;

  1. What is your skill?

  2. What is your passion?

  3. When is your free time you can volunteer?

  4. Do you drive?

  5. What is your strength/weakness? Your limitation?

I was stuck at No 3. I couldn’t really use my profession as my excuse because personally I do not think that it’s a formidable excuse. Like come on lah Minci… if you really want to do something – you would make time for it. Sampai bila nak harap pada pahala pasif kan? Which sadly seems to be the most popular thing nowadays. For instance, if someone wants to sell their product, it almost often ends with ‘share this post, you could get pahala for simply sharing” just how we love passive income? errr.. guilty as charged here.

Hence I learnt something about this process. That we should give what we can with the capacity that we have. I may not have time (yet) to devote for my cause. But InsyaAllah, that intense push will come. yelah.. can you just imagine my husbands reaction? Dahlah already busy with oncall and on your free weekend you want to run for Africa? Not to mention those occasional but important days where you had to stay back at work because you had to?  Contoh je.. I just don’t want the topic of ‘anak kera di hutan disusukan‘ to rise in our daily couple conversation. Kah kah kah.  Until then, just do what you can.

A kind word. A motivating speech/blog post/watsapp message.

A  mini donation/contribution here and there.

The ultimate act of charity is still about Time. I will get there.

Me Time starts now ..

I rested my sachet of Peppermint tea in a Spongebob mug containing hot boiling water. While waiting for it to brew properly – I performed my ablution in preparation for my Isya prayers.

I wore my mint green telekung which I bought from Indonesia. I faced the Qiblat and made my niat. I raised my arms for the Takbiratul Ihram “Allahu Akbar”and  recited Iftitah, surah Al Fatihah and another short surah. I made sure my spoken words were at a pace which was slow and clear to my ears, I stood up straight till I could feel my back stretch and I pulled back my shoulders just so I could feel the relief of the spasms of the muscles down my spine in between my scapula.

Then I  Ruku’. A perfect 45 degrees bow facing the floor with both feet firmly to the ground. The back of my hamstrings were probably thankful for such actions – I felt like wanting to be in that position longer than usual.

Next was Sujud or prostration. I imagined all the blood flowing to secret areas of my brain as I placed my forehead touched the ground. I kept my back straight as I sit in between the double prostrations. During Tahiyat, I stretched my feet and back enduring that mild ache yet relief to the already exhausted body. Then it was time to give Salam – a head turn to the right and then to the left. The solat ended. Alhamdulilah.

I could really relate to this article: Why Mothers Stay Up Late. Hence most of my blog posts are usually drafted in the night. Or daytime when Mr Husband and my son is not around and I happened to be on Night Shift. Even 60 mins ‘me time’ is sufficient in a day. And what better way to spend it well on the perfect prayer.

My brew is ready. Sipping peppermint tea in my sanctuary, my happy place. My corner of kawaii stuff.

Oh I wonder, what do you enjoy doing in your ‘Me Time’??

Blue ink is just not my color

I wonder if I post this on IG as a giveaway – how many would be interested. Its because I received quite a few blue inked pens in my surprise bundle of joy. I tried to like the colour more but I find that I’m a black ink sorta person.

Hmm.. let me just sleep on it tonight.

Any hard core fans of blue ink here?

Malaysia Clay Art – making my own brooch

I had no idea shops like Malaysian Clay Art exist right here on our very soil of Malaysia until a few months ago. I enrolled myself in a 3 hour class by an independent tutor (meaning she doesn’t work or speak for Malaysian Clay Art) who taught us how to make figurines out of polymer clay. This was something new to me as I’ve never been exposed to such medium before.

We were taught to create for instance Baymax using basic shapes which was for me really interesting. After the class, I was hungry for more hands on mini sculpting especially when my clay teacher told us how we can make our own magnets, brooch and pin shawls with them. In less than 24 hours, I turned into a #hantuhandmade entity. LOL

I bought my starters kit from the website. I chose its No 1 Best Seller Polymer Clay Set B worth RM55.00. It comes in a box containing 24 different colours of clay with free tools and selected accessories. I thought it was a good investment to get the ball rolling.

It seems that they were also selling other forms of clay such as the air dry clay, cream clay and even soap clay. The website had abundant information on how to  use these products on top of the many videos you could watch when it comes to being creative.

So far, I have made these Gemilang Brooch which I gave to my teacher as a gift. It definitely needs a bit more refining and improvement to give it a polished touch. Perhaps I can buy the glaze during my next online shopping trip to the site. The clay was easy to use and it doesn’t leave significant stains on your fingers – very easy to wash off.

Here’s a few Pokeball brooch to show the world that I’m a trainer as well. TEAM INSTINCT GUYS!!

I also made these mini envelope magnets to hold down important notes on the fridge.

I have also been experimenting with googly eyes for my Mr Tomato charm.

My next projects would include making my own hijab pins. 😛

So if you’re keen to pick up a new hobby, do keep this form of activity in mind. It’s very fulfilling to see your own creations made from scratch. Orders can be placed at their website and they could be contacted via Facebook too. Have fun!
