Maleficent . Is magnificent. Hazeeq’s first movie.

Maleficent: I was so lost in hatred and revenge.

You stole what was left of my heart.

I had my concerns at first regarding bringing Hazeeq to the movies. I worry that the decibels would be too much for his tympanic membranes.. but surely the cinema and Disney have had it all figured out if they were to produce a childrens movie. Right?! [self-reassuring mode]

I fell in love with Angelina the Goodwill UN Ambassador rather than Angelina the actress.

I fell in love with Angelina , the mother of her many children than her being an actress.

Still, I loved her acting to bits! I actually longed to see her high cheekbones throughout every scene and of course waited impatiently for the scene where she interacted with her daughter, Vivienne.

Mr Husband booked the morning tickets. Kind of like near Hazeeq afternoon nap time. We were hoping that if say, he hates the movie.. he ‘d still be sleepy and doze off throughout the 90 mins.

2014 blog2-001

Well.. surprise! surprise! Hazeeq behaved very well. He did not fidget or jump on the seats. Hugging his little cow tight, ‘they’ ate popcorn together. I sneaked in a sausage puff for him to eat as well. He was very attentive to every scene and was also delighted of scenes showing ‘kakak’ or ‘baby’. What a blessing.

About the movie itself.

I’ve read of Sleeping Beauty but honestly I never knew her name was Aurora and the evil witch was Maleficent until recent years. It was like, ‘How come I missed that part?’. Maleficent reminded me a lot about the anime, Naruto. Of which the viewers are always reminded that the villains were never evil to begin with. People are not born vicious. The surrounding individuals, circumstances and environment that they grew up in become factors that influences them to become who they are as an adult. The same principles apparently applies to Maleficent. She had a heart of gold and wings as strong as a hurricane but it got stolen from her out of the act of greed.

At the end of the day, Love Trumps Evil. And everybody gets to live happily ever after. I love happy endings.

Date & Fate .. an oat snack.

“The oat is the Horatio Alger of cereals, which progressed, if not from rags to riches, at least from weed to health food.”

Waverley Root, ‘Food’ (1980)

I was sold at the mention of eating snacks made from oats. Oat spells Fibre, Healthy and Low Calories. Without a doubt, I fished out MYR 11 from my purse and purchased a box of Date & Fate. All in the spirit of trying to Eat Right and also in helping to boost my staffs side income. Hehe..

The product was appealing and nicely packaged. I don’t really get why it is called likewise. Is it supposed to mean that oat and chocolate are meant to be together? I was excited to see the insides!

My hair is as bad as Radagast and now I need it sorted …

 Desperate maladies require desperate remedies.

I am going to have to visit the salon soon. For a hair treatment session. Yikes!

I am tempted to go to a different one this time but the comments from the hairdressers will probably be the same.

“Your hair is so DRY!!!What are you? A twig?”

Well.. perhaps not that dramatic but that is the vibe I get most of the time. Haha. They have always recommended the use of hair serums to which I obviously ignored until subsequent visits. But the next visit would probably have their eyes bawling and such .. so lets just try to sort it a bit before I go for another session.

This means I need something urgent to fix the problem. I mean if patients can ‘cheat’ their random glucose level prior to their appointment, I bet I can pull off a trick as well. Buy some so called good hair cream and wish for straight, luminescent hair. No?

I honestly hope that these 2 products would work its magic. Hu hu.

Kitty Kitty Itinerary

“The traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see.” –

G.K. Chesterton

We went to Johore for our anniversary. A rough itinerary of what we did with Baby Zeeq.

Some thoughts;

SILKA HOTEL

Not bad for a 3 star hotel although Ive seen better. The lobby was comfortable but the room we got had a smell. Like tabacco. We were offered a different room earlier, one with twin beds but hello.. Baby Zeeq is still co-sleeping with us hence we need the room with the King Size bed. It was otherwise clean and doesnt have a dingy stench to it which makes Solat comfortable on the carpet.

There were confusions on how many nights were booked for that room despite already having a proper and early booking through Agoda.Com. I mean, what is so difficult? Dont you guys communicate with each other?

On one particular morning, we didnt even have breakfast coupons and eventhough the receptionist said to just mention our room number, it didnt feel right to swallow down the food and we noticed the staff at the restaurant flipping through their papers looking for our room number. We felt illegal to be there to be exact. We were not thrown out or anything. We just felt we did something wrong.

Location otherwise is superb. theres a nearby Tesco and giant Hypermarket. Also the famous Sate Wak Radol a few minutes away.

All in all, the stay wasnt a total disaster. However, I wouldn’t choose the same hotel if  I were to make a trip to Johor again in the future.

LEGOLAND

I wished I was warned earlier that no outside food was allowed within the area. I risked a packet of my crisps being confiscated at the entrance gate though the guy manning it was kind enough to let me keep the other packet. God bless him. Thank god I didnt bring a whole crate of drinks or prepare a picnic basket to Legoland.

We spent approximately 2 hours inside. We didnt get on all the rides partly because Baby Zeeq was either to small for the rides or him just being cranky. We did enjoy the 4D movie to which we went in twice –  one show after the other.

Perhaps we will reconsider coming again when Baby Zeeq is bigger and understands the concept of theme parks.

HELLO KITTY LAND

Amazingly Baby Zeeq was in a good mood to participate in all the activities. We got on the teacup ride, painted cookies, made jewellery et cetera. We even managed to rescue Kitty from the Dark Towers and got a certificate.

BARNEY/THOMAS & FRIENDS

Hightlights of this place : the Barney show which features Barney with a medley of sing-a-long songs. Our favourite was the Raindrops song. Perhaps the Thomas section was more interesting as they had lots of ride suitable for children under the age of 2.

Still, we made Baby Zeeq wore a tutu!

The trip was ok. All the tickets were booked in advance through the internet. Total money spent for tickets and rooms were MYR707.00

Hoping for more wonderful trips to come.

Exploring Malacca : Iqlil Salon – Small and Cosy

“Your hair is a statement of Style, an affirmation of Beauty, and an expression of Self Love”

Ademola Mandela

Town-square-001

Its pretty simple. Im here in Malacca because Mr Husband hails from here and its only natural for me to follow on suit. This means I have left behind my usual life in Kuching and get to start brand new here. Thus, it feels great to explore new shopping outlets or salon centres for this matter as I try to call Malacca my new home.

Recently, I came across a small little salon. IQLIL SALON.Prior to this, Small means a basic salon, not fashionable, dingy to a certain extent and of course.. cheap. I decided to give it a try since it has one important selling point – caters for muslimah. Thus ensures that you’re not getting a hair cut in the midst of men at waiting areas staring at you. Leaving you with an uncomfortable feeling as you first have to take off your headscarf and then putting it on again as you leave hoping at the same time the hairdresser would not feel disappointed with you doing so after he/she finished blow drying your hair in the most awesome fashion ever.

At the same time, you also do not want the hairdresser to take you for granted – cuci rambut ala kadar, blow drying half-heartedly thinking that you prolly dont mind since you’re wearing a tudung anyway.

So, I stepped into Iqlil with a not-so high expectation.

2014 blog-001

I was immediately welcomed with a smile by one of the hairdressers. Pretty pretty lady. I had almost thought the place would be runned by makciks trying to pass their time. There were other customers so I was told to make myself comfortable at the waiting area which was spacious and cute. Having a TV there was enough to make me occupied as I scanned through the hair products they had on their shelves.

When it came to my turn to have my hair done, I was met by a petite young lady who ran her fingers through my hair gently and highlighted the main problems she saw with it. She recommended a hairstyle that would work for me after I have stated my preferences. I love people who can do magic with hair once you say ‘apa-apa je.. janji tak kacau length’. She mentioned services of Iqlil such as hair treatment and such but did not go on as to pressuring me to get one which was a bonus point. Pushing customers to get a particular service on and on is pretty annoying.

I have to mention that the head massage and shoulder she gave during the hair wash was spot on. I almost dozed off from the relaxing experience.

Price was reasonable. The 5% discount was generous.

I hope to visit it again next month after one of my oncalls. Perhaps for a hair treatment session. I had only wished that Iqlil would be more proactive in approaching its customers in becoming its members. I was kind of waiting for the cashier to mention or hand me a simple pamphlet regarding members benefits and such. Or display its members card on top of the cashier desk beside the macarons to reinforce the banners and boards on display. It didnt happen. ha ha. Next time, maybe?
