Losing a colleague to functional medicine

Do not get me wrong. Functional medicine is good. Especially when it is practised ethically. I hope my colleague will be able to integrate his passion for functional medicine with the current practice well. What is more important is to do no harm to the patient. When a colleague like him, who is a senior and in a permanent position with relatively good wages, decides to leave, that’s when we know he is going for Self- Actualisation. Good for him.

We wish him all the best.

And like any badak ceremony, we saw him off with a farewell party. This time the theme is Oriental. So there’s a hotpot with an Oden-ish broth, siew mai, pau and many others.

Good Day Coffee

While we can find already find Teh Botol at Ninso, another of Indonesia’s pride Good Day coffee is still not easy to come by. We had this coffee during our family trip to Medan and Yogyakarta many years ago. I ordered this coffee online via Shopee as part of my Teacher’s Day and Farewell gift. It is going to be part of the goodie pack that also has a golden spoon with it.

The cappuccino flavour was easy to order. The other flavours are mostly out of stock. I bought a big box of Good Day coffee. Inside the box, there are about 120 sachets. Plenty of leftovers to enjoy myself after I make the gifts.

The coffee is featured briefly in this video. It’s a snippet of Eid and the recent farewell luncheon we had at The Windmill Station at Bukit Beruang. I tried the Wes Anderson trend in the intro of this YT video instead of my usual one.

December is a month to party

Life is always fun all year round. Workwise, it’s about closing on the accounts, updating targets and planning for the new year. I am just excited to get the programmes going for 2023. It is also my final year in OUM although I think I’ll graduate by 2024 cause there is no way I am able to fit in all my subjects in just 3 semesters. Especially when your limit is only 12 credits per semester. I mean once I submit my Industrial Training paper, can I request additional subjects to take?

December started with the WAD celebration at the clinic.

Then it was my son and niece’s birthday bask followed by a farewell party for my 4 other colleagues.

I have my exams next week. And then there will be one final course to organize in the last week of December after another party at my sister’s house on the 25th. Can you feel the joy already?

I bought a chocolate cake for my son. As always from my favourite bakery in Melaka, Italy Cake House. The cake was called Devil Temptation. It was nice, not too sweet or bland. I got him a Portugal jersey and a mini-ball (FIFA vibes). For my niece, I got her a few dresses and hair clips. On Saturday, the whole family went to watch Mechamoto. That requires a different post altogether.

Since I had a Zoom meeting, I couldn’t really join my friend’s farewell from the beginning. But I still get to have the food and join in the games. I wish my colleagues huge good luck in their future endeavours. They are really fun people. My contribution to this farewell is as usual the video part. Gosh… I want to be on the decoration committee next time. ha ha ha. But I actually enjoyed putting the video together. Must start planning for next year’s Doctor’s Day, Awareness Days and Farewells. I super love the green theme for this farewell party. There are lots of colours to explore in the coming years.

Friends at work are getting more creative with their videos which is a delight.. Looking forward to more of these..

Friends come and go but true friends leave footprints in your heart

I am in the phase of life where I don’t have a lot of special friends anymore.I’m still grateful for what is left though. F.R.I.E.N.D.S bring on a different meaning every time. And we substitute them with so many different words depending on what they mean to us. That ‘friend’ can be just an associate, a kenalan, org sama keje kat tempat aku, a Uni friend,a dorm-mate,  a work colleague etc..

And from that handful, there will be a few that you really want to keep and grab hold on longer for their friendship. The catch is, would they think the same way of you. Would they reciprocate and want to hold on to you too? Do they love and care for you just as much as you of them?

I am still finding my answers today. I still wonder if … if I call them my BFFs – do they even think that I’m a BFF. Or a friend, someone you’d call in times of despair. Or when you wish to share some happiness.

Today, we had a farewell dinner for 2 wonderful ladies in our unit. If I am King Arthur, I’d offer them a spot on my round table. They are that great doing big big things in the future.

GOOD LUCK

Sayonara to you my precious friend

Perhaps my hospital is best known as a transit hospital. A place where doctors wait and serve until it is time to move to greener pastures. While it is a lost to our patients for losing such great minds and love, as one of those chronic people who are still holding on to our comfort zones, I see it as a great opportunity to meet lots and lots of people. From different walks of life, of varied medical experience. Yup, I’m still here going on to my 4th year.

Another colleague is leaving by next week. We are organizing a farewell party for her tomorrow. Earlier this month she already belanja a few of us a meal at the ikan bakar area in Duyung. I heard it cost her a leg. Ha ha. So I guess its time to return the favour on a larger and more formal scale.

I have been asked to get her a gift. Hence, for practicality sake I bluntly texted this colleague and asked her if she wanted anything special. She cheekily replied, I want a new water bottle, to replace my orange one.

So a water bottle it is. But since I have like nearly 200 to spend, I’d probably end up getting something that she doesn’t use as well. On top of the ciput water bottle of course.  I mean, what do you give someone who has everything. Someone who drives a Mercedes Benz, a beetle.. someone who owns her own practice.

If it was me, I would like my farewell gift to be;

  1. a cute box filled with faber castell black ink pen sampai penuh
  2. stuff like stickers and sticky pads for my planner
  3. a good story book
  4. a small handbag

ha ha ha. Now this sounds like a birthday gift.
