Book Review : My name is Hasmah

A biography of someone at 90 years old is worth all the time and dime to get the book and read it. What more someone in Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Binti Mohd Ali‘s shoes who has to juggle a lot of roles and responsibilities along the way.

I recognize her as Tun M’s wife. I acknowledge her being a medical doctor. I have heard of her extreme humility. However, I later found out in the book that she is damn funny and hilarious. It’s like if we were going to med school together, I’d want her to be part of the Sharoe Green girls (that’s where my housemates and I live in Manchester).

It was an easy book to read. A bit on the price-y edge but hey the life lessons in it is incomparable. Still cheaper than a new phone! I leave you with some pearls of wisdom I extracted from the biography.

Perhaps it would help to read the book yourself to understand some of the anecdotes mentioned in my journal.

The Haul from ShopeeMY… with a bit of melalut stuff in the beginning

If I’m not taking any leave or going for holidays, that means I’ll not be out and about spending my hard earned salary that much. It also means I’ll be coveting over stuff online. Which in turn means more online purchases and more poslaju parcels arriving at my workplace. It’s almost always my parcel that comes through. And they’re not the typical thing a career woman buys like baju or tudung. They’re kawaii stationaries.

Not that I’m a studious person. Like oh my goodness.. ko beli bebanyak memo pad buat apa kan? or the occasional odd questions like – what do you use these pens or paper clips for? or tape ni utk apa? saja tampal mulut ko.

Well.. most of them I use for my journalling. Yes, I’m back to that hobby. The internet.. Facebook especially has become a very harsh place to put down your little thoughts. Because everything you say apparently has got something to do with one of your friends. Walhal.. sometimes I’m talking about a situation that resurfaced in my memory which took place probably many months ago. And it’s not about you – you egocentric perasan pompuan..

Blogs are not that safe either but the exposure is less. If the issue is too sensitive – I’ll just private my post and invite certain people to read it. Or if its damn classified, wait till I die then ask our Malaysian Special Force to hack it. Journals are best. If I really hate someone, I can just print out their face from a photo in FB, stick it in my journal and doodle ugliness on it. Something like voodoo but no needles involved. Or washitape them like mummies of the past.

ANYWAY, this was supposed to be a haul post. See how I melalut. ShopeeMY has this free shipping thing going on still on their site. Of course, I took the opportunity to restock my stack of washi and memo pads. I did more exploring and decided on 2 other stores selling these cute stuff.

LOOTERSBOX

My favourite item from this haul is the Superman Slim Tape and the Farm Animals. I loved how LootersBox included a free sample of Washi Tape. Knowing myself – if I happen to like the sample/freebie there is a high chance I’ll be returning to the shop to buy more. Not only for the Superman tape but also for those scissors slim tape because I love sending off parcels and cards too. It makes a good seal.

LITTLEZAKKA

My favourite items are the travel sticky pad set and the panda memo set. I was obviously excited and grateful as I noticed a cute freebie collar bookmark in the package as well. I had been surveying other online stores in ShopeeMY for better deals but I find LittleZakka offers the best price for them memo pads. I will definitely keep them on my watch list.

So don’t wait and hesitate. Head over to ShopeeMY now.

Malaysia Clay Art – making my own brooch

I had no idea shops like Malaysian Clay Art exist right here on our very soil of Malaysia until a few months ago. I enrolled myself in a 3 hour class by an independent tutor (meaning she doesn’t work or speak for Malaysian Clay Art) who taught us how to make figurines out of polymer clay. This was something new to me as I’ve never been exposed to such medium before.

We were taught to create for instance Baymax using basic shapes which was for me really interesting. After the class, I was hungry for more hands on mini sculpting especially when my clay teacher told us how we can make our own magnets, brooch and pin shawls with them. In less than 24 hours, I turned into a #hantuhandmade entity. LOL

I bought my starters kit from the website. I chose its No 1 Best Seller Polymer Clay Set B worth RM55.00. It comes in a box containing 24 different colours of clay with free tools and selected accessories. I thought it was a good investment to get the ball rolling.

It seems that they were also selling other forms of clay such as the air dry clay, cream clay and even soap clay. The website had abundant information on how to  use these products on top of the many videos you could watch when it comes to being creative.

So far, I have made these Gemilang Brooch which I gave to my teacher as a gift. It definitely needs a bit more refining and improvement to give it a polished touch. Perhaps I can buy the glaze during my next online shopping trip to the site. The clay was easy to use and it doesn’t leave significant stains on your fingers – very easy to wash off.

Here’s a few Pokeball brooch to show the world that I’m a trainer as well. TEAM INSTINCT GUYS!!

I also made these mini envelope magnets to hold down important notes on the fridge.

I have also been experimenting with googly eyes for my Mr Tomato charm.

My next projects would include making my own hijab pins. 😛

So if you’re keen to pick up a new hobby, do keep this form of activity in mind. It’s very fulfilling to see your own creations made from scratch. Orders can be placed at their website and they could be contacted via Facebook too. Have fun!

My Happie Scrappie trial

Purchasing a Happie Scrappie planner kit eventhough its a preloved item brings on the same euphoric feeling one buys a second hand DuckScarve, I think. HAHA. I bought this personal sized planner kit from ShopeeMY because I find that I keep coming back to it. So, it’s a must buy. Forgive me money..

The store that sold me this on Shopee is bearb_store. It also sells planner embellishments which include washi tapes, stamps and all sorts. The catch is that some of the items are on a pre-order basis.

Thistle Port Dickson Resort And Spa

It’s an all in hotel where you can just have a truly relaxing and enjoyable stay within the compound itself. Not only they have a wonderful swimming pool, an in-house spa and private beach, the resort also have plenty of activities for kids! And if that still does not entice you – hey, there’s a Pokestop and PokeGym on site too. You don’t even have to leave the hotel to gain levels and search for Pokemon.

We were there because Mr Husband had a conference to attend. Since it coincides with my birthday – he decided to not share a room with his roommate and instead upgraded his options just so Ee and I could tag along. It was definitely quality time between Mother and Son.

It was a 4D3N stay. The room size and facilities were top notch. Yelah.. its a RM375 rate room per night but Mr Husband just paid like a bit lah.. kira top up jak.

Mr Husbands programmes starts at 8AM till 5PM. While he cracks his head for poster presentations and group work stuff – both me and my son decided to explore PD. We went to the Ostrich Farm, PD Waterfront, 3D Alive Art Gallery,  Oceania Mall (sgt usang).. had meals at the Cowboy Nasi Kukus place, plenty of cendols and coconut drinks plus a McD Happy Meal with Chocolate Cone ice cream.

We are usually back by noon as I need to perform my Zuhr prayers. Cannot jamak. It’s just 66KM away. In the afternoon when the weather is scorching hot – we’d stay indoors and entertain ourselves at the facilities on site.

THISTLE has a media room for kids where they’d play animation movies on the projector. Macam pegi wayang lahh. We wanted to watch  Frozen but missed its screening time, so we went for Penguin Madagascar and Kungfu Panda on 2 consecutive days. Ee enjoyed the Lego Room very much. Strangely he was not a fan of the kiddies swimming pool. He said he doesn’t want to fall sick playing in the pool. Fine by me – I don’t have to get changed in a burkini. Da ketat dahh… bluek

If you have the monetary capacity and need to pamper yourself without moving much muscle – Thistle is the best place to go. Besides, I have yet to try the Spa.
