I GO Hotel

I was on a weekend trip to see my dad. My ulterior motive was to declutter his house of my late mom’s belongings. Mother was a fashionista confined by her duties in the household. Despite not earning a fixed income, she has a beautiful collection of jubah, blouses and baju kurung. On second thought, she does have an income. A monthly ‘Kasih sayang income’ from her two daughters with varied amounts. It was pretty disheartening having to pack it up and give it away. However, considering that her fashion is very Hetty Koes Endang and Warga Emas, we should give it to those in the same age group.

My sister and I did pick and chose some clothes that we liked. I gave more to my sister because she would find them more useful since she has a job teaching. I am less fashionable and tend to stick with attire in my comfort zone.

I booked a hotel during my stay at Bandar Saujana Putra. There were a few budget hotels to choose from and I picked I Go Hotel. The location is very strategic at BSP 1 with loads of places to eat. This could be influenced by the fact that it is near MAHSA University which is where the students are.

I made my reservation through Agoda.Com, my trusted app to make any staycation possible.

My Double bedroom was priced at less than RM80/night. The room had a simple setup which was enough for a comfortable stay. The air conditioning was good. The toilet was super clean with its soap provided. There were simple beverages for free and a water dispenser at the lobby. To me, that is good enough for a budget hotel. They even provided guests with a mini flask in case we wanted hot water in our room at night. That was super thoughtful.

After a good night sleep, I woke up and showered. Did my checkout early and had breakfast at the mamak. Then, I surveyed the area for other hotel options for the Kuching delegates for my brother’s wedding in July. I completed my cleanup for the day till evening. I had to stop after I sneezed too much. The dust was getting to me, my eyes were teary and despite putting on a face mask, I just couldn’t go forth with it.

I will be coming back soon to BSP to continue the ‘death cleaning’ – perhaps in another 2 weeks or so.

Carboot Sale – What I learnt from the experience

Our car boot sale would not have materialized if my sister was not on board.

major players : my sister and her husband

major players : my sister and her husband

We read about carboot tips from experienced car booters online. We screened our items for any faults – even if one shirt has no button on it, it will not be included in the sale because kita bukan nak jual sampah, kita nak jual barang baik punya at a low price. If say after 3 attempts at selling it off, the item is not bought – the stash will go to charity for those in need. In Malaysia, there is always someone in need. We just have to know where to find them. Some are easily found through charity organizations. Others may be missed out due to location or other factors we have yet to discover.

We booked our spot early

We brought our floating money – those small change you give to buyers

We folded our recyclable plastic bags from home so buyers need not worry about how to bring back home their goods

We brought our breakfast to the site and shared it with our ‘neighbours’ – then we kept our food trash properly in our trash bag so we wouldn’t litter the area unnecessarily

We brought chairs for us to sit down and mini fans to combat the dry and hot weather

We labelled our things well and are open to negotiations

We followed every single advice we gathered through the world wide web to make our sale a success. Once our boot has been set up – there were only a few things to do

  • wait for customers
  • people watching and profiling

It seems that our area is heavily populated by generations like ourselves. Young parents with toddlers and preschool going kids. There were not many elderly parents nor were there many teenagers. Perhaps the latter were still in bed on a weekend which left us wondering where the younger uns are. It’s like if we  have to go to war, there will be a lot of widows and orphans left behind. So our baju nenek2 were not selling fast enough including my stickers and planner related items. I should just pack them and sell them online. Or have a try setting up a booth at a planner related event.

Then I noticed that we have a lot of young foreigners working as domestic maids and contract workers looking for cheap clothing. The contractors were looking for worn out T-shirts they could use for their daily work whereas the maids were looking for fancy blouses. What we were not expecting was that the ladies were not looking for the sizes that we have – in fact even the locals were the same. They wanted bigger sized clothes. I almost forget Malaysia is an overweight and obese country as compared to the other ASEAN nations. So yeah.. my kurus clothes did not have as many buyers as opposed to my maternity clothes.

One thing stood out though on that day of how a foreign contract worker was looking for books to read. I love people who read and this particular man was looking for an English novel. I handed him a few to choose and he bought one off the shelves. It was a rare sight but I thought it was cute to have this big man in his safety helmet and boots, looking all rugged and bulky  – having in his hand a pink plastic bag with my book and 2 free owl bookmarks and a self-made calendar. I hope he finds the book interesting. I was a bit disappointed that no one wanted my older edition of Reader’s Digest – where are all the bookworms? It’s only RM5!!!

My sister and I were not there to make big bucks. It was more of an activity we can do together as sisters. Married with kids plak tuh..  At the same time decluttering our home. We felt like we achieved something at the end and now we are planning to do a Sarawak themed car boot sale. It would be interesting the next available weekend. Time to plan! Where is my washi and stickers!!

Later I will tell you what I did with the money I got. It’s got something to do with my Tabung Minci.

Its happening this weekend ; our Carboot sale

Crossing my fingers that it would not rain, as my sister and I have been putting in quite an effort for the event this weekend.

CARBOOT SALES BSP

 SUNDAY, 6th DECEMBER 2015

TIME : 7am – 12 noon

VENUE : PETRONAS BSP (bandar saujana putra)

I am selling my pre-loved clothes from zaman2 kurus and muda remaja – when K-POp was a craze. All those cute frilly T-shirt and dresses are to go for a flat price of RM5. My sister is also selling her kurus clothes and as for Father, he is also selling off his necktie at RM7 each.

On top of that, since I am a planner junkie despite a creativity level of ZERO – I am also selling all the cute stickers, stationaries and other kawaii stuff that I bought in bulk. Sometimes I only wanted a set but it was tempting to get more in bulk for cheaper shipping rates. so kita juallah ..

We are doing this to collect funds for personal purposes. My sister wants to buy a new breast pump. Father just wants extra pocket money since he is a pensioner already. As for myself, this would be a great try-out in the art of buying and selling on top of filling up my Tabung Minci for charitable purposes.

Here goes the pictures;

Nasi Bujang Senang – Restoran Seri Kenyalang

This is a sponsored post.

Restoran Seri Kenyalang first opened in April 2015 . Currently it is run by the man himself, Mr Khairul who hails from Terengganu and is married to Puan Nora, a Sarawakian. To be precise, my younger sister. Yes, she is paying me for this post in kind. ha ha.

  • Coconut Shake

In Ramadhan however, RSK is closed but it has a pop-up stall at Bazaar Equine, Seri Kembangan. They are selling at Site 32 and the head cook a.k.a. the owner had this brilliant idea of making a simple iftar dish. It’s called Nasi Bujang Senang.

It is basically white rice + turmeric chicken + vege + sambal + kicap manis Jalen. And they are selling it for RM4.00/pax. It’ll be suitable for Buka Puasa Ramai2 or Sedeqah. Do visit them at Bazaar Ramadhan Taman Equine Sri Kembangan today!!

Jovial jolly jolly

Today everybody was in a good mood. Almost every hour ( in between patients) we were laughing over a joke, a ghost story that went wrong, a case which is shitty but funny all the same. Perhaps its because we are on full manpower today. No one on leave. No one went for a course. No one ‘mengular’.

We were all a happy family. Like siblings kidding with each other.

And another business card arrived from my trusted online biz-card maker : PHOTOBOOK MALAYSIA.

This time it is for my sister’s little restaurant. RESTORAN SERI KENYALANG.

I hope she likes it.
