Pak Putra Tandoori and Naan Restaurant

Adventurous is not really my middle name. Hence this weekend has been fairly interesting.

First, my mother decided to gift me with 2 headscarves. Of styles and material that I would hardly choose for myself. Knowing me, Mr Husband was like, “omg.. I am dating Neelofar today!” HA ha. Very funny. Once I donned my new hijabs, I was secretly loving them. Perhaps my wardrobe needs a revamp after all.

Secondly, Mr Husband brought us to Pak Putra Tandoori and Naan Restaurant which he says serve the best tandoori chicken ever in Malacca. This joint is also loosely translated as The son of Pakistan (pak Putra)

Indeed, it was finger licking good. We had the Tandoori and Plain Naan with watermelon juice. I was impressed by its strong red colour, the succulent spicy taste of chicken and that mint chutney. Well well well… that best tandoori I had in Rusholme, Manchester is now at second place cause we have a new champion in town. Right at our own backyard.

Mr Husband said the price has been marked up tremendously. I could not imagine how it will be with the GST implementation coming soon. But as long as the food is good, Malaysians will for sure buy wan!

Sandwiches at Arnor Crepes

I was a woman hungry for a sandwich and headed to a place which I know has a short queue. It has been a terrible call + shift the night before and because I had only MYR 2 in my purse I couldn’t buy at least a simple nasi lemak from the cafe for my postcall breakfast. So I ate the in-house hospital food – porridge. Unfortunately there was not a single spoon in the pantry hence I resorted to just ‘drink’ the porridge from the bowl and prayed hard no one would see. So I was glad when I could finally punch out and grab lunch. At Arnor Crepes, AEON.

In fact, when I arrived there was not a single soul standing at the counter to order its so called famous crepes. I was honestly feeling grateful, perhaps to a certain extent, sensing a surge of joy knowing that I wouldn’t have to wait ‘long’ for my order to be done.

From a different perspective, I was also feeling ‘sorry’ for Arnor Crepes as it was competing with other giants who also knows their sandwiches. Like VIVO and SUBWAY – at that same place. I couldn’t help wondering how many customers did they had for the day. It was after all lunch hour but everybody else seems to be flogging someplace else. I was curious, what are they eating for the day. Ouh.. there’s a bee line outside Sushi King. And KFC. And a fullhouse at VIVO and SUBWAY.

It is wishful thinking I have to say, to even imagine that my purchase of the day would be the reason for this particular sandwich stall to keep doing what they’re doing here. That they would not be disheartened and sacrifice my desire to have their sandwiches by relocating someplace else where its more profitable. Thus would it be selfish of myself though to not share the goodness of this place just so I can have my short queue forever and ever? Ha ha.

The sandwich set was reasonably priced at MYR 9.90 . It includes a nice 6 inch sub and a cup of sealed iced green tea. The sauce was generous , so was the meat. The salad was plenty and heaped to the max. What more could I ask for right? An alternative sandwich for everybody!

Honey Madu for dinner

Mr Husband is working extra hours today. This means dinner for one is 2 slices of honey buttered toast with a mug of hot cocoa. No fancy dishes – just toast.

In Vietnam, honey is served with tea.

During one of our visits to the bee farm, we had tea mixed with a small dollop of honey and a sprinkle of pollen. Topped with a mini-squeeze of limau kasturi. It was a wow tasty drink. I had seconds. And a third. But I didn’t buy their produce because it was too expensive and most importantly – they were in liquid form. I did not pay for extra baggage for the Saigon trip. Liquids in hand luggage? Risky…

In Malaysia itself, I came to hear of Teh tarik with Madu in Johor. Now that is something worth a day trip for.

An attempt at #mincibento

I am a fan of anything or anyone close to Kawaii (cuteness). That I have to constantly remind myself ,

“Minci..for gods sake. You are 31. Not 3”

I tried to tone down in allowing myself to be carried away with Kawaii-ness. I used a proper black Faber Castell Ball Pen 1423 1.0 although I am dying to use a ballpen with cute little trolls sitting at the edge when clerking my patients. I recently purchased 2 pairs of court shoes on sale (buy 2 for MYR80) despite wanting to parade around the whole Casualty Unit with striking heels heavily adorned with flowers and buttons. I wear proper professional clothing fit for the budaya koprat thingy as opposed to a gothic- lolita like dress with purple lipstick in the Red Zone.

An account on Instagram for the past few months however, shone an alternative way to channel these Kawaii-ness tendencies in a healthy, adult-y manner. I mean look at those adorable planners with stickers, the mind-blowing arrangement of books, the intricate designs of colourful cakes and pastries .. and my recent obsession; Bento Meals!

Bento Meals which not only looked cute but presumably healthy at the same time. I have to admit, it does require a hint of talent and creativity to produce such masterpiece! And it made me wonder and actually tried to korek that bit of bakat which I hoped is there. I know its there somewhere. Please.. I want to make my own bento..

Since I am on leave today. I decided to give it a go with the little tools I have and ones I manage to find from Daiso. Imagine this was Japan, I could get euphoric from the many available kits they sell there!

Recipe : Beef Rice with Beef Kurma Kismis

Inspired from Chef Hanieliza’s 1 hari 1 Resepi book ..

tweaked to suit the palate of a Sarawakian and her toddler.

Looking forward to making more #mincibento. Hehe..

Hazeeq is 3

I am an enthusiastic mother when it comes to birthdays but I have long accepted that I have no talent in baking my own 3-D cake with fondants and all. Nor am I gifted in making those pretty party decorations and goody bags. Hazeeq doesn’t even have friends outside the family and as of my proper friends.. well, we are too far away and most of them would be oncall or doing something with their family. Ha ha ha. Lumrah berkawan with doktores…

So it was a weekend birthday without the mat salleh thrills and frills. No clowns unless you count my silly jokes – the one that make cheeky kids go ‘HAr Har Har’ weakly.  We finally managed to set our foot at IKEA and the new mall in town – IOI City Putrajaya.

Mr Husband insisted that I try the famous Ikea Meatballs. He said it was a 7/10.

meatball.. satu seringgit

I had to ask,

“So which meatball gets a 10”

“Yours..”

Of course, I have always known the meatballs I make are wonderful to his palate. It’s like the one and only gift God decided to give me over any other meals. Why can’t it be lasagna!! Huahuahua. Any culinary challenged person like myself could easily make one though. Mince meat + holland onions (lots) with loads of black pepper. Nyum nyum.

On the other hand.. at IOI City Mall, we tried to window shop each floor but it was just too massive. I gave up after Daiso and Parkson. I was itching to buy a pair of court shoes but none of them were screaming a confident ‘BUY ME!!” to my face. So few dollars saved there but I splashed it on the birthday lunch – at JOhnny’s steamboat restaurant. I am pretty convinced that if my mother was there (she had another social function to attend to), she could replicate the recipe with a mere lick of the sauce. She is that talented!

Bday EE2

It wouldn’t have been a perfect birthday weekend if it wasn’t because of the cake. My younger sister bought it from her trusted bakery Berry’s – a Japanese chocolate cheese cake and oh em gee.. it was the best cheese choc cake ever. Kalah Secret Recipe. The 2 hyperthyroid Doraemon as cake toppers was a good touch but turns out too creepy to eat. I mean.. look at the eyes. It looks like its gonna pop out anytime!

Well son, you may not remember this once you reach 7 but I hope you know how much we love you judging from the adorable pictures we took of you. Mummy hope that you will learn a lot of good things as you grow up, to be gracious to others and be content with what you have. To always strive for greatness but never to forget remain rooted to the ground, as we all come from the same humble beginnings.

Mummy love you very much and will try to get you a new adik to play with. *grin*
