The Big 30 … Mr Husband’s mini celebration

They say age is just a number. It better be ..

BIRTHDAY MAN

I was hoping to do something special for Mr Husbands big 30 but we were both swamped with work related activities. Him busy with his Masters-to-be programme – me with my God knows what stuff. The akreditasi questionnaires, pending medical reports, the respiratory update course .. to name a few.

So the best I could do was to buy these floating helium balloons which cost a freaking RM 10 each , a novel we could both read and bitch about, a yearly recycled birthday card and of course a birthday cake.

This time I bought his cake from King’s Confectionery for a change. It was a mistake. I should just stick with Italy Cake House products. They taste is way nicer, looks more exclusive and slightly cheaper despite the GST.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR HUSBAND. HAPPY BIG 30!!

Balloons from Pembekal Belon (near Kip Mart Malacca), Suamiku Workaholic from Popular Bookstore (Tesco), Mocha Chocolate Cake from King’s Confectionery (Tesco)

Hazeeq is 3

I am an enthusiastic mother when it comes to birthdays but I have long accepted that I have no talent in baking my own 3-D cake with fondants and all. Nor am I gifted in making those pretty party decorations and goody bags. Hazeeq doesn’t even have friends outside the family and as of my proper friends.. well, we are too far away and most of them would be oncall or doing something with their family. Ha ha ha. Lumrah berkawan with doktores…

So it was a weekend birthday without the mat salleh thrills and frills. No clowns unless you count my silly jokes – the one that make cheeky kids go ‘HAr Har Har’ weakly.  We finally managed to set our foot at IKEA and the new mall in town – IOI City Putrajaya.

Mr Husband insisted that I try the famous Ikea Meatballs. He said it was a 7/10.

meatball.. satu seringgit

I had to ask,

“So which meatball gets a 10”

“Yours..”

Of course, I have always known the meatballs I make are wonderful to his palate. It’s like the one and only gift God decided to give me over any other meals. Why can’t it be lasagna!! Huahuahua. Any culinary challenged person like myself could easily make one though. Mince meat + holland onions (lots) with loads of black pepper. Nyum nyum.

On the other hand.. at IOI City Mall, we tried to window shop each floor but it was just too massive. I gave up after Daiso and Parkson. I was itching to buy a pair of court shoes but none of them were screaming a confident ‘BUY ME!!” to my face. So few dollars saved there but I splashed it on the birthday lunch – at JOhnny’s steamboat restaurant. I am pretty convinced that if my mother was there (she had another social function to attend to), she could replicate the recipe with a mere lick of the sauce. She is that talented!

It wouldn’t have been a perfect birthday weekend if it wasn’t because of the cake. My younger sister bought it from her trusted bakery Berry’s – a Japanese chocolate cheese cake and oh em gee.. it was the best cheese choc cake ever. Kalah Secret Recipe. The 2 hyperthyroid Doraemon as cake toppers was a good touch but turns out too creepy to eat. I mean.. look at the eyes. It looks like its gonna pop out anytime!

Bday EE3

Well son, you may not remember this once you reach 7 but I hope you know how much we love you judging from the adorable pictures we took of you. Mummy hope that you will learn a lot of good things as you grow up, to be gracious to others and be content with what you have. To always strive for greatness but never to forget remain rooted to the ground, as we all come from the same humble beginnings.

Mummy love you very much and will try to get you a new adik to play with. *grin*

Making a conscious decision. To celebrate life.

Matin is still our baby brother although he is already in Form 6 AND  is an uncle of 2 mischievous nephews!!  Ha ha. My brother was honestly trying to save his cake from getting squashed by the 2 very riant toddlers. Lighting a candle and singing a birthday song was not even possible but not that Matin wants it anyway. Ha ha.

We bought his cake from Berry’s bakery which is as nice as ever. Not too sweet and the cake comes in a cute box packaging with square-ish plastic bag. He wanted a classic Blackforrest, so there we have it.

Food was simple. All boys love Domino Pizza. And most importantly there wasn’t much dishes to do afterwards. He he. I am glad to have agreed with Mr Husband for the trip back to my parents this weekend. God knows if I would be free if we had chosen to go during that other intended week. Especially with so many impromptu weekend programmes popping up inconveniently.

Carpe Diem!

A week of uncertainties … and its only Wednesday

My week always starts on a Sunday. While last weekend has been brief – it was nevertheless filled with warmth and happiness. I kinda got a ‘premonition’ that I will be forgetting my younger sister and Dad’s birthday this week (of which I did), I decided that the family must celebrate early.

The First Uncertainty..

.. was when I had to choose a cake. My favourite cake house at the moment is the Italy Bakery as it has a wonderful selection. It was between the La Rose Cake and the Absolute Chocolate cake. I stood in front of the cake display with Hazeeq fidgeting by my side in his little jubah for like 5 loooong minutes before I finally made my choice. An LA Rose cake it is – an excellent choice at that as this cake not only has a luxurious and elaborate decoration, it also exudes wonderful taste and texture to any birthday celebration.

My Second Uncertainty ..

.. was when I had to make a difficult decision for a patient at work. It was not a matter of life and death. But it’s one of those things that keeps popping up at the back of my head. I had to go with an experience-driven instinct – enough said

My third Uncertainty..

.. is my dear Hazeeq. I have to say he is a fun little human right now. He can interact, he understands most of the things we say to him. He is a big boy! He remembers crystal clear the things he saw or heard, the direction to his grandmothers house or Tesco. He can even relate to us the activities he did for the day with his grandparents although we have to filter it a bit because come on lah.. takkan lah nenek nak pergi tesco everyday bawak you makan kfc. ha ha ha.

hazeeq's new slippers.. bought by nenek

I wouldn’t say Hazeeq’s uncertainty is a negative thing. I like the fact that Hazeeq is gender neutral. Meaning he loves Sofia the First as much as he loves Upin Ipin. He loves pink slippers as much as wearing his shorts and checkered shirts or ‘baju aku kaya’ as he calls it.

My current ‘uncertainty’ is in how to initiate potty training. First time parent lah kan.. and despite being a medical professional I’m still hoping that the business of pooping or pee-ing on ones own will come by naturally. Aduh.

Its my Birthday

Even Google managed to make me feel special for the day.

Mr Husband had to be on duty on the day itself, so we celebrated early. Hazeeq as always thinks that the world evolves around him, hence sang his own birthday song and cut the cake. I got a ‘sophisticated’  handbag to be used in place of my red rucksack.

I even had a birthday surprise at work.

Another cake and candles to remind me I’m 31.

It is often said that women in their 30s tend to be the happiest because they are at the peak of everything. Their relationship, career , family and such. The expectations are thus high and I hope to be less miserable, more importantly less angry. *Cooling the temper*
